Technical Support Engineer

About the Role

Scentroid is looking for a hands-on, highly organized Technical Support Engineer to join our team in Stouffville, Ontario.

This position combines technical troubleshooting, customer support, field service, and engineering investigation. The successful candidate will have a strong technical or engineering background and be comfortable diagnosing complex hardware, electronics, sensing, communications, and software-related issues.

You will serve as an important technical point of contact for our customers, taking ownership of incoming support requests from initial investigation through resolution. This includes documenting cases, troubleshooting remotely, coordinating internally with engineering and production teams, following up with customers, and travelling to customer sites when hands-on support is required.

We are looking for someone who is technically capable, energetic, skilled, and comfortable representing Scentroid directly with customers around the world.

Key Responsibilities

Solve problems

- Diagnose failures across sensors, electronics, embedded firmware, communications, and software on deployed instrumentation
- Run structured root cause investigations on equipment failures, intermittent faults, and unexplained system behaviour
- Reproduce field-reported issues in our lab and prove out the fix before it ships
- Support customers remotely and on site, from commissioning through training
- Work independently on site and represent Scentroid at customer facilities, project sites,



and conferences

Improve the product

- Track recurring failure modes across the installed base and bring the patterns to engineering
- Work directly with R&D; on design changes, serviceability improvements, and failure prevention
- Work with production on assembly, test, and calibration steps that drive warranty returns
- Validate repaired and redesigned units before they go back into the field
- Build the troubleshooting guides and diagnostic procedures the whole company uses

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, or a related engineering discipline. Internationally earned engineering degrees assessed as comparable are welcome.
- 3 to 5 years in technical support, field service, instrumentation, or hands-on product engineering
- Real electronics troubleshooting ability: PCBs, sensors, wiring, and integrated systems, with a multimeter and oscilloscope in hand
- Working knowledge of serial and networked communications (Modbus, RS-485, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, cellular) and embedded systems
- The instinct to keep digging after the symptom is cleared
- Clear written and verbal English, and the ability to explain technical detail to customers at any level
- Organization. You will carry several open investigations at once.
- Valid passport and willingness to travel

gas detection, or environmental instrumentation. C/C++ or embedded development. IoT and remote monitoring systems. On-site commissioning or international field service. Digital filtering and signal processing. Multi-layer PCB repair.

Travel

This position is primarily based at Scentroid's Stouffville office; however, the successful candidate must be comfortable travelling when required.

Travel may include customer installations, troubleshooting, commissioning, training, demonstrations, or other technical support activities within Canada and internationally.

Candidates must be comfortable working independently while travelling and representing Scentroid professionally at customer facilities.
