Position: Volunteer Research Assistant

Location: Remote, with some in-person tasks

About the Role

Uyyarvu is looking for a Volunteer Research Assistant to support our research and educational initiatives. This role is ideal for someone who is interested in mental health, psychology, research, and community education and wants to gain practical experience contributing to a growing nonprofit organization.

The Research Assistant will help identify, review, and summarize reliable research and resources on mental health topics. You will work alongside our research and content team to help ensure that Uyyarvu's educational materials are accurate, accessible, culturally sensitive, and grounded in credible sources.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct research on mental health, psychology, and related topics using credible academic and professional sources
- Review academic articles, reports, and other reliable resources
- Summarize research findings into clear and accessible language
- Assist with developing educational resources, articles, and other content
- Identify current research and emerging topics relevant to Uyyarvu's audience
- Support fact-checking and verification of mental health information
- Organize research findings and maintain accurate references and source information
- Collaborate with research, content, and communications volunteers
- Contribute ideas for future educational and research initiatives
- Ensure content is respectful,



inclusive, culturally responsive, and appropriate for a general audience

Qualifications

- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Psychology, Mental Health, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field
- Strong research and information-gathering skills
- Ability to locate and evaluate credible academic and professional sources
- Robust written communication and attention to detail
- Ability to summarize complex information clearly and accurately
- Familiarity with APA-style citations and academic research is an asset
- Interest in mental health, mental health advocacy, and reducing stigma
- Understanding of or interest in culturally responsive and inclusive mental health practices
- Ability to work independently and meet agreed-upon deadlines
- Previous research, writing, nonprofit, or volunteer experience is an asset
