Shipping & Yard Manager

Phoenix Fence Corp. is a growing Canadian manufacturer / distributor / retailer of wire fencing products serving customers across Western Canada. With a long-standing workforce and a strong operational foundation, the company is entering a new phase of growth that includes the implementation of modern inventory and yard management systems.

As part of this growth, Phoenix Fence is creating a new leadership role within its Edmonton operation to strengthen shipping, receiving, and yard execution while supporting operational efficiency and cultural evolution.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Shipping - Yard Manager will oversee all yards, shipping, and receiving operations at the Calgary facility. This role will lead approximately 5-10 employees, supported by lead hands and foremen across functional areas.

This is a hands-on leadership position requiring a visible, floor-level presence. The successful candidate will be comfortable working alongside the team, directing daily activity, resolving issues in real time, and leading the integration of new systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

- Lead daily toolbox talks and set expectations for safe, efficient operations
- Oversee the flow of materials in and out of the yard
- Ensure outbound shipments are spot-checked and inbound materials are properly received
- Coordinate material movement between yard, production, and shipping
- Act as the primary escalation point for yard and shipping issues

People Management
- Recruit, hire, onboard, coach, discipline,



and terminate employees
- Provide ongoing performance feedback and corrective coaching
- Support lead hands and foremen across all yard functions
- Manage / schedule changes within a long-tenured workforce

Inventory & Systems
- Conduct inventory checks when requested by Sales or Procurement
- Review Calgary material requirements and make stock-based decisions
- Coordinate cycle counts with Procurement
- Lead the implementation of new yard and inventory systems
- Drive current and continuous process improvement initiatives

Hands-On & Equipment Support
- Provide operational coverage including forklift operation and pipe cutting
- Act as backup for key shipping and logistics roles
- Oversee forklift maintenance and coordinate servicing
- Ensure proper use of forklifts, gators, and skid steers

Administrative & Procurement Support
- Review timesheets for accuracy
- Complete purchase order requests for operational supplies

Candidate Profile Required Experience & Skills
- Post secondary education and 10–15 years of relevant operational experience with ERP systems
- Proven leadership of large teams
- Process improvement and change management experience
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Calm, composed leadership style
- Ability to manage diverse personalities

- Forklift operation experience
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license

Training & Onboarding
- On-the-job training provided
- Learning curve expected with autonomy and ownership required

Pay: $23.00-$34.79 per hour
