Role overview: We are seeking an experienced Electrical Power System Engineer to support the concept, detailed design, analysis, verification and integration of electrical power subsystems (solar arrays, power-conditioning units, batteries, distribution & regulation) for our current and next-generation remote sensing and communications satellites.
The role works closely with payload, bus, thermal, structural and mission-systems multidisciplinary teams responsible for delivering high-performance, reliable EPS solutions to commercial, government, and defense customers.
Tasks summary: Architecture Concept & Requirements Define EPS architecture (generation, storage, distribution) that satisfies mission power budget, mass, volume and reliability constraints.
Perform trade-studies (e.g., solar cell type, battery chemistry, regulator topology).
Generate system requirements, functional flow block diagrams.
Develop the Interface Control Documents (ICD) and Design Description.
Perform requirement management and maintain bidirectional traceability throughout the program life cycle.
Detailed Design & Analysis Size solar arrays, power-conditioning units, battery packs, and power distribution units.
Build and validate high-fidelity electrical models for satellite modes, FMECA, Fault detection Conduct & maintain power budget models, load-flow, thermal-power coupling, and survivability analyses (e.g., eclipse, secure-mode, fault-tolerant).
Cross
Functional Coordination, Stakeholder & Program Interaction Present technical status, risk analyses, and tradestudy results to senior management.
Interface with spacecraft bus teams (power, thermal, structure, avionics).
Develop/maintain high-fidelity power models for mission analysis (e.g., orbit raising, station-keeping, de-orbit).
Develop tools for power efficiency & optimisation for the satellite.
Support B&P; (Phase 0 & pre-phase A).
Integration & Verification (IVV) Author verification plans, test matrices, and validation procedures for unit & EPS subsystem tests.
Support ground-test & integration campaigns, fueling, thermal vacuum, EMI/EMC, and spacecraft-level integration.
Analyse test data, close out anomalies, and update design baselines.
Support FSW integration Technical Leadership & Mentorship Mentor, guide, lead a multidisciplinary team of junior or intermediate system engineers & interns Act as technical liaison with customers, partners and external vendors Act as Continuous Improvement stakeholder Contribute to Client''s knowledgebase, process enhancements, and standards development.
Configuration, Documentation & Standards Management Maintain design and safety standards.
Ensure all artefacts, analysis, software, documentations and deliverables are version controlled in PLM environment.
Support design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR/TRRetc.).
Support Technology Road
Mapping & Innovation Launch
Site, OnOrbit & Operations Support Support launchsite interface checklists with LVI responsible engineer, prelaunch checkout procedures, and earlyorbit checkout scripts.
Provide realtime engineering support during launch, onorbit commissioning, anomaly investigations and contingency operations.
Support SOOH development and associated operator trainings.
Required Qualifications: B.
Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace or Physics with 8 + years of EPS system design experience on LEO/MEO platforms.
Deep knowledge of spacecraft bus subsystems and their interactions.
Experience with powerelectronics design and power management hardware.
Strong understanding of aerospace system engineering fundamentals Hands-on individual who can support systems integration processes and capability to test systems and resolve problems.
Experience with Confluence and JIRA Demonstrated capability to efficiently work with little supervision Ability to distill complex problems to fundamentals to solve with analysis, similarity, or creativity.
Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills in English; knowledge of French will be considered an asset (Contact with clients outside Quebec and work on deliverables in English).
