Southwestern Public Health is seeking a temporary AI Engineer (AI Solutions and Automation) to support the design, development, testing, and implementation of artificial intelligence, automation, and digital innovation initiatives across the organization.

The role focuses on building secure, maintainable AI-enabled tools, data integrations, and automation solutions that support business processes, information management, and organizational efficiency.

Key Responsibilitie

AI and Automation Development

- Design, develop, test, and deploy AI-enabled tools and applications to support organizational priorities

- Develop solutions using Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, Azure AI, Power Platform, and related technologies.

- Create custom AI agents, workflows, and automation solutions that improve organizational efficiency and service delivery.

- Collaborate with business teams to translate operational requirements into technical solutions.

Data and Systems Engineering
- Design and maintain data architecture required to support AI applications and automation initiatives.

- Optimize system performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Technical Solution Design
- Lead the technical configuration and implementation of AI and data platforms.

- Develop proof-of-concept solutions and pilot technologies.

- Document system architecture, technical specifications, and implementation approaches.





- Provide technical advice related to AI platforms, automation technologies, and digital solutions.

Governance, Security, and Compliance
- Ensure technical solutions align with organizational cybersecurity, privacy, and information management requirements.
- Support responsible AI implementation through appropriate security, privacy, monitoring, documentation, and governance controls.

- Assist in the evaluation of emerging technologies and AI capabilities.

Qualifications

Education

- University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related discipline.

- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience
- Minimum three years of experience developing software, automation, data engineering, or AI solutions.

- Demonstrated experience developing, testing, or implementing AI-enabled tools, applications, agents, or automation workflows.

- Experience designing cloud-based solutions and system integrations.

- Experience working with APIs, automation platforms, and enterprise software environments.

Preferred Technical Skills Experience with one or more of the following:
- Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Studio

- Azure OpenAI Services

- Microsoft Azure

- Power Automate

- Power Apps

- Python

- REST APIs and system integrations

Knowledge and Skills Strong software development and technical problem-solving abilities.

Ability to design scalable, maintainable technical solutions.





Robust written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a project environment.

Understanding of privacy, cybersecurity, data governance, accessibility, and responsible AI principles.

Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Employment Agreement.

Salary Range: $44.67/hr to $49.87/hr. (70 hours in a two-week period).

Will receive vacation pay each pay period.

Southwestern Public Health provides a flexible work environment. Hybrid work arrangements are available for some positions, depending on the program and operational requirements.

Candidates are required to maintain a current valid Ontario Driver’s license and reliable access to an insured working vehicle.

A criminal reference check completed within the last six (6) months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPID), judicial matters check, will be required of the successful candidate.

Immunization Requirements: Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, are able to provide proof of immunization, and acknowledgement to follow Southwestern Public Health's policies and processes related to COVID-19 management in the workplace.
