Role Description The Junior Family Lawyer will work on-site full time at the firm’s Scarborough, ON office, supporting senior counsel and managing a growing caseload of family law matters. Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting pleadings, affidavits, separation agreements, and other family law documents; conducting legal research on statutes, case law, and procedural rules; and preparing materials for case conferences, motions, and trials. The role involves meeting with clients to gather facts, explain legal options, and maintain clear, professional communication throughout each file. The Junior Family Lawyer will attend court appearances and mediations as appropriate, assist with negotiations and settlements, and ensure deadlines and court requirements are consistently met.



The position also requires accurate file management, timekeeping, and collaboration with administrative staff to support productive practice operations.
Qualifications

- Licensed to practice law and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (or eligibility for licensing); experience or coursework in family law is an asset.
- Strong legal research, analytical, and writing abilities, including drafting court documents, correspondence, and legal memoranda with attention to detail.
- Effective client-facing skills, including clear communication, active listening, empathy, and the ability to manage sensitive, high-conflict situations professionally.
- Solid organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple files, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Comfort with courtroom and mediation settings, including preparation of materials, advocacy skills, and professional demeanor before judges and other parties.
- Proficiency with standard office and legal software (e.g., MS Office, case management tools) and willingness to learn firm-specific systems and procedures.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and professionalism, plus a strong interest in building a long-term career in family law.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a small firm environment, accept mentorship and feedback, and contribute positively to team culture and client service.
