About the Role

We are looking for a Design Technologist - Building performance to join our commercial construction/engineering team in Calgary. This is a design-focused role for someone who wants to build their career at the intersection of architectural/building design and energy performance. You'll work alongside our design and engineering teams on commercial projects, contributing to design development while also taking the lead on energy modelling and building performance analysis.

This is a great fit for a designer who is curious about sustainability and energy performance and wants to grow that specialty within a design career not a purely technical, standalone energy modelling role.

Key Responsibilities

- Support design development for commercial construction projects, including drawings, design documentation, and coordination with project teams
- Develop and run energy models for commercial building projects using industry-standard software (e.g., IES-VE, eQuest, EnergyPlus, DesignBuilder, or similar)
- Analyze building performance data to inform design decisions around envelope, mechanical systems, and energy efficiency
- Prepare energy compliance documentation in accordance with the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB) and Alberta's building code requirements
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to integrate energy-efficient and sustainable design strategies
- Support LEED, Zero Carbon, or other green building certification submissions where applicable
- Present findings and recommendations to internal teams and, where required, to clients
- Stay current on Alberta energy code updates, sustainable design trends, and relevant software tools

Required Qualifications





- Minimum 2 years of experience in a design role within commercial construction, architecture, or engineering
- Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Interior Design, Engineering Technology, Building Science, or a related field
- Working knowledge of design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or similar BIM tools)
- Genuine interest in energy modelling and sustainable building performance, with willingness to develop this skill set further
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work fully in-office in Calgary, AB
- Legally entitled to work in Canada

Assets (Nice to Have)

- LEED Green Associate or LEED AP accreditation (Canada Green Building Council)
- Graduate of a university/technical program with an energy focus, such as:
- University of Calgary – Sustainable Energy Development
- NAIT – Alternative Energy Technology or Architectural Technology
- SAIT – Energy Systems Engineering Technology or Architectural Technologies
- Mount Royal University or University of Alberta programs with a sustainability/energy component
- Prior hands-on experience with energy modelling software
- Familiarity with Alberta's energy code requirements and NECB compliance processes

Pay: $25.46-$50.71 per hour
