Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Tutor to support students in Grades 9 through 12 in achieving their academic goals. The ideal candidate will have a passion for scientific inquiry, solid communication skills, and experience working with teenagers. This role involves providing personalized instruction across various scientific disciplines, focusing on fostering curiosity, confidence, and academic success. The Tutor will work closely with students to identify their needs and develop tailored learning plans that demystify complex concepts in a positive and encouraging environment.

Duties

- Deliver 1:1 science tutoring sessions (in-home or virtual).
- Support Grade 9 & 10 General Science, as well as Grade 11 & 12 Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
- Assist students with lab report writing, data analysis, and understanding the scientific method.
- Prepare customized learning approaches based on the student’s curriculum and specific academic goals.
- Provide detailed feedback after each session to keep the family updated on progress.
- Encourage critical thinking, independent learning, and technical problem-solving skills.
- Maintain punctuality and a high level of professionalism.




- Assess students’ strengths and areas for improvement to create targeted lesson plans (e.g., mastering stoichiometry or Newtonian mechanics).
- Support students with homework, upcoming unit tests, and final exam preparation.
- Utilize effective teaching methods to engage students and simplify abstract scientific theories.

Skills

- Strong academic background in General Science, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
- Proven experience working with children or teenagers in educational or tutoring settings.
- Teaching or classroom experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of special education practices to support diverse learners and different processing styles.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively break down complex formulas and biological processes.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including virtual whiteboard tools and online learning platforms.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods based on individual student needs (e.g., visual learners vs. logic-based learners).
- Passion for education and helping students see the real-world application of science.

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal, Internship / Co-op
Contract length: 3 months

Pay: $19.00-$22.00 per hour
