Overview:
ExxonMobil (Imperial Oil)'s Mine Progression team is hiring a Senior Project Engineer to lead front-end and mining civil construction projects supporting the Kearl oil sands operation, based out of the Quarry Park office in Calgary. This role owns projects end-to-end, from estimating and bidding through execution and close-out, spanning mine dewatering, reclamation, pond construction, and large-scale bulk material movement such as overburden removal and polishing pond construction. The Senior Project Engineer reports to the Mine Progression Project Lead, oversees contractor teams executing the work, and partners closely with the in office Kearl operations team to keep projects on track. This is a contract role based in Calgary with strong potential for renewal, the team has a track record of extending strong performers year over year, and suits someone who thrives working independently in a fast-moving,
collaborative environment.

Responsibilities :

- Own assigned mine progression projects end-to-end,



from estimating and bid development through contractor selection, execution, and close-out.
- Lead front-end and mining civil construction scopes, including mine dewatering, reclamation, pond construction, and large-scale bulk material movement.
- Participate in Invitation to Tender (ITT) development, bid evaluation, and contractor selection.
- Coordinate development of Gate 3 project deliverables and Functional Interaction Plans within ExxonMobil's Capital Project Management System (EMCAPS).
- Identify and source long-lead equipment, coordinating with FEED contractors until equipment responsibility transfers to the contractor.
- Oversee a team of contractors executing project work, verifying design and construction stay consistent with project specifications and standards.
- Partner closely with the on-site Kearl operations team, coordinating across numerous interfaces to keep projects aligned with site priorities.
- Resolve project issues, manage change requests, and endorse change authorizations to keep scope and schedule on track.
- Serve as the primary interface between the Project Team and contractors, ensuring smooth transitions between project stages.
- Travel to the Kearl site roughly once a month, typically for two to three days depending on project needs, with charter transportation and camp accommodation provided.

Qualifications :
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline. - 10–15 years of experience in civil engineering or oil sands/mining, in either project or operations roles.

- Experience across multiple engineering, construction, and project management/controls assignments.
- Proven ability to run projects independently,



from estimating and bidding through execution and close-out.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with experience overseeing contractor teams.
- Excellent organizational, coordination, and interface-management skills across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and shifting priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficient in the MS Office suite.
- Comfortable working independently in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, with willingness to travel to site approximately once a month.

Preferred Qualifications

- Willingness to relocate to Edmonton in mid-2028 when the office relocates, a strong plus for long-term contract consideration.
