Morningstar Mission Warming Centre will be opening November 1st, 2026, until April 30th, 2027, in Napanee. This will be our eighth year of operation; it is staff-led. We are currently hiring Front Line Overnight staff members.

Job Title: Warming Centre Front Line and Overnight Staff

Reports to: The Warming Centre Program Coordinator

Job Description: The Warming Centre Frontline and Overnight Staff will be responsible for:

- Creating a welcoming, supportive, respectful and secure atmosphere.
- Providing assistance and interim support to clients in attendance.
- Continually promoting safety and security, acting as required.
- Maintaining, cleaning, and sanitizing the environment as required.
- Attending program meetings and training sessions as requested.
- Triaging individuals and families who seek emergency assistance for their housing crisis through administration of screening and coordinated intake protocol.
- Identify and encourage individuals to connect with agency resources related to housing, mental health and addictions and food programs.
- Providing essential program services to meet the immediate need of clients for safe overnight accommodation, nutrition and hygiene, and security of belongings.
- Making connections with other community services to assist the individual.
- Data collection.
- Staying up to date on communications by monitoring emails, Slack and shift notes.
- Completion of incident reports as per policy.
- Completing other duties as assigned by Warming Centre Program Coordinator.

Required skills, Knowledge, Qualifications





- University degree or community college diploma in related discipline an asset. Minimum two-year work experience in human services, or similar setting and applicable training. Candidates with lived experiences are encouraged to apply.
- Ability and availability to work up to 10-hour night shifts, to be scheduled between the hours of 5 pm and 11 am weekdays and 24 hours on weekends and holidays. Must be available a minimum of one shift every other weekend.
- Current First Aid and CPR mandatory.
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training or related training an asset (training provided to those who do not have current certification). Suicide Alertness Training an asset.
- Must be able to lift/carry up to 20 lbs (including up and down stairs) and have ability to respond quickly in situations.
- Successful candidates must provide a current CPIC – Vulnerable Sector Screen, at least one week before first scheduled shift.
- Strong problem solving, conflict resolution mediation skills and written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of homelessness and affordable housing issues within the community and the strategies to end chronic homelessness.
- Knowledge of Morningstar Mission programs and services.
- Knowledge of the resources in the community for individuals, youth and families who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, living in poverty, or living with mental health or addiction issues.




- Knowledge of and adherence to privacy policies within the organization related to confidentiality of client information.
- Ability to assist in helping individuals move towards utilizing housing resources available in and around our community.
- Ability to identify and assess risk and implement strategies which minimize risk to self, volunteer, staff, the client, and others.
- Ability to function as a participating member of the team and foster positive workplace relationships.
- As a grassroots Christian organization, applicant must be comfortable in a faith-based organization.

Position and Wage:

- $20-$22 per hour (based on skills, knowledge and qualifications)
- · Contract position, Nov. 1st, 2026 until April 30th, 2027 (training the week of October 26-30)
- Shifts available are between the hours of 5pm and 11am, five days a week and 24 hours on weekends and holidays.
- Hiring for the current open positions:

1 Full-Time Staff (35-40 hr/week, must work 10 hr overnight shifts)

4-7 Part–Time Staff (20–35 hr/week, must be able/available to work 10 hr overnight shifts and 4 hr shifts from 5-9pm and 7-11am)

1-2 Casual Staff )0-20 hr/week, minimum of 2 weekend shifts per month)
