About Our Client

Our client is a technology-driven enterprise focused on scale, speed, and high system availability. They operate a modern hybrid infrastructure, with a strong operational preference for Linux-based open-source environments.

They are looking for a Senior Database Administrator who prioritizes system maintenance, uptime, and core administration, while possessing the baseline development skills required to support engineering teams. This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on keeping data systems stable, secure, and highly performant.

This is a fully remote position

open exclusively to candidates residing on the West Coast of Canada who are available to work core business hours in the Pacific Standard Time (PST) zone.

Responsibilities

- Core Maintenance & Tuning: Administer, monitor, and tune production, staging, and development database engines (MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server).
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Own backup and recovery workflows, test restore procedures, and maintain multi-node replication topologies.
- Performance Optimization: Proactively identify infrastructure bottlenecks, audit execution plans, and resolve slow-running queries.
- Automated Administration: Streamline routine DBA tasks—like patching, backups, and health monitoring—using Python or Bash scripts.
- Upgrades & Security: Execute database upgrades and data migrations with minimal downtime, while enforcing strict user access controls and data encryption.
- Development Support: Provide lightweight development assistance,



including modifying database schemas, troubleshooting stored procedures, and reviewing data models with software engineers.
- Incident Response: Participate in the production on-call rotation, lead technical incident resolution, and update operational runbooks.

Qualifications

- Location & Availability: Must reside on the West Coast of Canada (e.g., British Columbia) and be fully available to align with Pacific Standard Time (PST) schedules.
- Professional Background: 7+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator (DBA), with a clear career emphasis on infrastructure maintenance and database operations.
- Linux Shop Preference: Deep familiarity operating within Linux server environments, managing open-source databases, and utilizing CLI tools.
- Multi-Engine Exposure: Solid production experience maintaining MySQL and PostgreSQL, along with supporting knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
- Automation Skills: Practical experience writing automation scripts using Bash or Python to handle routine administrative duties.
- Baseline SQL Development: Solid ability to read, optimize, and write SQL queries, views, and indexes to support development teams.
- Infrastructure Fundamentals: Proven experience configuring database replication, clustering, enterprise backup systems, and data encryption.
- Operations & Logistics: Experience supporting live enterprise systems, working in an on-call rotation, and collaborating across engineering departments.
