Confederacy of Mi’kmaw Nations (CMN) is a Tribal Council representing the eight Mi’kmaq communities of mainland Nova Scotia. Our mission is to proactively promote and assist Mi’kmaq communities’ initiatives towards self-determination and enhancement of community. CMN’s Department of Community Services and Infrastructure (DCSI)is currently looking for a motivated and knowledgeable candidate to fill the role of Wildfire Resilience Coordinator.

Position Overview

The Confederacy of Mi’kmaw Nations (CMN) is seeking a Wildfire Resilience Coordinator to support FireSmart programming, community education, and wildfire risk reduction and mitigation initiatives across CMN member communities.

Reporting to the Emergency Management Program Manager, the Wildfire Resilience Coordinator will work closely with Community Emergency Management Coordinators (CEMCs), other staff, residents, technical consultants, and other partners to strengthen community capacity and preparedness for wildfire. The position will coordinate and deliver FireSmart programming, support community wildfire risk assessments, conduct FireSmart Home Assessments, develop educational resources, and assist communities in identifying and implementing medium-to-large scale fuel mitigation projects.

The successful candidate will be a strong collaborator with an interest in wildfire resilience, emergency preparedness, public education, and practical risk reduction.

Overview of Responsibilities:

· Coordinate wildfire resilience activities across CMN member communities

· Support communities in identifying risks and developing risk mitigation solutions

· Coordinate and/or deliver FireSmart training opportunities for CMN member communities





· Participate in training programs and professional development opportunities to increase knowledge in wildfire protection and mitigation

· Develop and deliver FireSmart awareness and other public education content across all CMN member communities

· Work with communities, technical partners, and forestry contractors to identify and carry out fuel mitigation projects

· Develop and distribute public education resources

Position Requirements:

· Experience working in First Nation communities is considered a strong asset

· Knowledge of regional wildfire risk and mitigation practices

· Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills

· Experience developing and delivering training or other public engagement activities

· Willingness to travel to various communities and work in diverse environments

· Diploma or certification in emergency management, environmental studies, wildfire, project management, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is considered an asset

· Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet community schedules

Salary/Employment Term:

Salary Range: $51,034.29 - $55,198.68 per year. This is a one-year probationary contract with opportunity for renewal..
