The Role

As an Intermediate Process Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering process engineering scope across SWAT’s small-to-medium capital and brownfield projects. Your work will span the full lifecycle of process engineering—from early-stage pre-FEED activities such as debottlenecking studies, flare system and relief audits, and equipment technology reviews, through FEED activities including PSV, equipment, and system sizing, and into detailed engineering where you will develop all process-related engineering deliverables. You’ll collaborate closely with project managers, multi-discipline teams, and clients to ensure that technical deliverables meet regulatory requirements, operational needs, and industry standards.

This position combines hands-on technical work with opportunities to mentor others and contribute to project execution. You’ll also support project engineering functions as needed, offering a well-rounded scope of work that builds a strong foundation for continued professional growth.

You will:

- Scope and execute process engineering debottlenecking studies related to gas plants, conventional oil & gas batteries, utilities systems, and flare systems. Make practical recommendations to ensure the client is getting the best value for their future investment.
- Develop and deliver process engineering deliverables, including calculations (e.g., vessel, control valve, PSV, pump, tank, and heat exchanger sizing), process reports, PFDs, P&IDs;, process simulations, and heat/material balances.




- Support mechanical discipline in populating LDTs, and mechanical equipment datasheets.
- Support instrument discipline in populating instrumentation datasheets. Sign off on final instrument selection through Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE) process.
- Perform process modeling and optimization (Symmetry, HYSYS, HYSYS EDR, Aspen Flare System Analyzer).
- Define and manage process scope, deliverables, and interfaces with other disciplines.
- Attend and actively participate in process hazard analysis (PHA), ensuring that recommendations are captured accurately for ease of item close-out.
- Ensure all codes (including ASME), standards (including API), and industry standard guidelines are followed during project execution.
- Review and authenticate process deliverables (if P.Eng.).
- Support field investigations and data gathering.
- Communicate clearly with clients, operations, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of SWAT’s process engineering tools and templates.
- Mentor junior engineers and technologists as opportunities arise.

What You Bring

Required

- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Process Engineering.
- P.Eng. designation with APEGA.
- 4–8 years of process engineering experience in the Canadian oil & gas industry.
- Strong knowledge of conventional oil & gas facilities (dehydration, separation, compression, sweetening, or water treatment).
- Proficiency in process simulation tools and standard process deliverables.
- Ability to manage multiple scopes concurrently and deliver on tight timelines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel for site visits and field verification as required.

Preferred

- Experience in brownfield facility modifications, debottlenecking, or optimization work.
- Familiarity with ASME/CSA/API codes and Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) requirements.
- Previous exposure to project engineering or client liaison responsibilities.




- Field/operations experience or commissioning support background.
- Experience working in small EPCM or owner-rep environments.

Schedule: Monday–Friday
Work model: Calgary office-based with flexibility for occasional remote work. Field/site visits as required.
