Job Overview

The Quality Supervisor is responsible for supervising the Quality operations and staff on all assigned shifts. As a Quality Supervisor, you will be providing strong leadership and transparent directions. This role is a hands-on position working on the production floor, driving efficiencies, problem solving day to day challenges, ensuring all health & safety, quality, and supporting other ongoing continuous improvement initiatives and projects.

Hours of Work:

Rotating 8 hour shift every 2 weeks from Monday to Friday (Days, Afternoon, Nights) with weekends off. Note that Night shift rotation is typically scheduled as 4, 10 hour shifts per workweek for the Quality Department.

Responsibilities

- Ensuring compliance of all regulatory, company policies and quality standards. Investigate and report any Quality incidents.
- Lead and coach employees on the Quality team to meet daily and weekly production schedules and productivity targets. Create a culture of collaboration and a sense of purpose.
- Develop and coach employee on the Production teams how to perform quality checks and factory test methods.
- Participate in Morning Walkthrough as required, identify priorities for the day, follow up to ensure required actions are taken in a timely manner.
- Oversee quality operations– supervise and ensure that all employees are working safely and have what’s required to support production needs and ensure production meets company and customer standards for quality.
- Coordinate with Production departments to ensure dockets and other materials and information are provided to ensure efficient start up processes and production schedule stays on track.
- Ensure high level of housekeeping and organization is maintained in the lab. Provide suggestions/recommendations for further improvement.
- Monitor all production jobs throughout each department to meet operational and customer requirements for quantity and quality.




- Reviews and signs off on all start-up samples and final release of finished product for shipping to customers.
- Coordinate with department manager to ensure coverage for absences of quality technician when needed.
- Oversee quality consumables and tools and ensure that they are well maintained and replenished before all inventory is depleted. Example: Labels
- Maintains a good work climate through training, safety awareness, goal setting, process improvement, quality standards, productions standards, discipline, and individual and department development.
- Review HACCP forms to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with IFS.
- Work with employees and other resources to identify solutions and address any urgent issues in a timely manner.
- Ensure all quality test results, quality control data entry and product quality files are entered into D365 properly. Collaborate with Supply Chain or other departments as necessary to investigate any discrepancies.
- Train new employees to perform their functions in the Quality Technician role.
- Responsible for regular GMP audits and inspections on equipment, quality documentation and on- hand/incoming product
- Ensuring product quality is maintained throughout all production processes.
- Performs audits and inspections on raw material, product in process, finished goods and/or customer returns
- Performs quality tests using a variety of lab equipment such as IR spectrophotometers, gas chromatographs, tensile test, coefficient of friction etc.
- Generates various reports such as Certificate of Analysis, Certificate of Compliance, Technical Data Sheets, MSDS, Non-Conformance report etc.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Post-Secondary degree and/or diploma in Chemical, Biochemical and/or Biotech Engineering is preferred, or a combination of a scientific background, quality management training and experience will be considered.
- Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment overseeing quality inspection and testing.
- 5+ years’ experience conducting quality audits and generating reports and findings associated with quality testing is a must
- Working knowledge of GMP and HACCP is a must




- Previous experience with lab equipment is required, experience with spectrophotometers, gas chromatographs, tensile, coefficient of friction is a definite asset
- Strong working knowledge of various mathematical concepts including fractions, ratios and proportions is an asset
- Demonstrated experience with identifying improvement processes
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work within tight deadlines is required
- Previous experience with facilitating training and speaking to all levels in an organization
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills is a must
- Advanced computer skill is a must, previous experience with Microsoft Dynamic 365 is an asset.
- Flexibility to work rotational shift and occasional weekends
- Lifting of up to 50lbs is required.
