Job Overview

Jones Signs is seeking an experienced Sign Designer with robust structural and fabrication knowledge to join our team in Grimsby.

This is not strictly a graphic design position. We are looking for someone who understands how commercial signs are engineered, fabricated, assembled and installed and can create drawings that are practical and production-ready.

Responsibilities

- Design commercial signage including pylon signs, channel letters, illuminated signs, wall signs, sign cabinets and custom structures
- Produce detailed shop and fabrication drawings
- Develop structural concepts for large and complex signs
- Determine appropriate aluminum and steel framing, supports, mounting methods and connections
- Prepare accurate dimensions, sections, details and material specifications
- Design with fabrication, CNC production, assembly and installation in mind
- Work closely with our fabrication, CNC, production and installation teams
- Review site conditions and determine practical mounting and structural solutions
- Prepare drawings suitable for engineering review when required




- Identify potential fabrication or installation problems before a job reaches the shop
- Help improve the transition from sales/design drawings into production-ready files

What We're Looking For

- Experience in commercial sign design, structural fabrication, architectural metals or a closely related industry
- Strong understanding of aluminum and steel fabrication
- Knowledge of welded structures, framing, mounting systems and mechanical connections
- Ability to understand structural loads and apply sound structural design principles
- Experience creating detailed shop/fabrication drawings
- Strong design software skills
- CorelDRAW and/or EnRoute experience is an asset
- Experience with CNC manufacturing is an asset
- Understanding of illuminated signage, LEDs, acrylic/polycarbonate and aluminum sign construction is an asset
- Ability to communicate directly with fabricators and installers
