Element Steel is expanding our Field Installation Team, and we are currently hiring for multiple roles, including Field Foreman, Field Lead Hands, Field Installers (Apprentice Ironworkers/Welders), and Field Laborers.

Our crews specialize primarily in the installation of miscellaneous steel, including stairs, handrails, guardrails, platforms, ladders, embeds, and custom-fabricated components. We are also taking on more structural steel projects, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to grow their experience in both areas.

Available Positions

- Field Foreman

Responsible for leading and coordinating field operations. The Foreman oversees scheduling, communicates with project managers, ensures safety compliance, and manages multiple crews working on miscellaneous and structural steel installations.

- Field Lead Hands

Lead installation crews on-site and support the Field Foreman. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for coordinating daily tasks, ensuring work quality, and maintaining safe work practices.

- Field Installers (Apprentice Ironworkers/Welders)

Install miscellaneous and structural steel components under the direction of the Foreman and Lead Hands. Ideal for apprentice ironworkers, welders, or experienced steel installers looking to build their field experience.

- Field Laborers

Support installation crews with material handling, site preparation, equipment setup,



and general labour duties while gaining exposure to the steel installation trade.

Key Responsibilities

Steel Installation

- Install miscellaneous steel including stairs, handrails, guardrails, platforms, and custom fabricated components
- Assist with structural steel installation when required
- Read and interpret blueprints and field drawings
- Perform rigging, hoisting, bolting, alignment, and adjustments
- Assist with field welding, grinding, and fitting as required
- Safely operate lifts, telehandlers, and other site equipment

Leadership & Crew Coordination (Foreman and Lead Hand positions)

- Supervise and direct field crews
- Assign daily installation tasks and coordinate workflow
- Mentor apprentices and support skill development
- Communicate job progress and site concerns with management

Safety & Site Operations

- Participate in daily Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs)
- Ensure proper use of PPE and fall protection
- Maintain a clean and organized work site
- Report hazards, incidents, or equipment issues
- Follow all company and site safety policies

Qualifications

Requirements vary depending on the role applied for.

Foreman / Lead Hands

- Journeyperson Welder/Ironworker or equivalent field experience preferred
- 3–5+ years of experience in steel installation
- Experience supervising or leading crews




- Strong blueprint reading and layout skills

Field Installers

- Experience with miscellaneous steel, structural steel, welding, or ironwork is considered an asset
- Apprentice welders and ironworkers encouraged to apply
- Ability to work safely at heights and in outdoor environments

Field Labourers

- Construction or labour experience considered an asset
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn the trade

General Requirements

- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Fall Protection certification is considered an asset
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Willingness to work overtime and occasional out-of-town projects
- Strong teamwork and communication skills

Schedule & Hours

- Monday – Thursday: 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Friday: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- Overtime available depending on project requirements

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Apprenticeship

Pay: $21.18-$45.00 per hour

Expected hours: 88 per week
