Position Overview
We are currently seeking an Inside Technical Sales Developer to join our sales team.
This position is focused on generating sales, developing new business opportunities, growing existing customer accounts, and providing knowledgeable technical product support to customers within the transportation and industrial marketplace.
The successful candidate will be comfortable proactively reaching out to customers, identifying opportunities, making recommendations, preparing quotations, following up on opportunities, and converting inquiries into sales. The ideal candidate will have experience working with transportation and/or industrial products and possess the technical aptitude to understand customer requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who enjoys sales, building customer relationships, solving customer problems, and taking ownership of opportunities from initial contact through to order completion.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Generation & Business Development
- Proactively contact existing and prospective customers to identify and develop recent sales opportunities.
- Generate sales by introducing relevant products and solutions based on customer requirements, purchasing history, and industry needs.
- Review customer histories and purchasing patterns to identify opportunities to increase sales and product penetration.
- Develop new business within assigned markets, customer groups, and geographic areas as defined by Sales Management.
- Follow up consistently on quotations, inquiries, leads, and sales opportunities to convert opportunities into orders.
- Develop and maintain a strong sales pipeline through proactive outbound communication and follow-up.
- Identify opportunities to introduce additional or complementary products to existing customers.
- Re-engage inactive or lower-volume customers to identify opportunities to regain and grow business.
- Maintain accurate records of sales activity, customer opportunities, quotations, and follow-up requirements.
- Work toward achieving established sales and customer development objectives.
Inside Sales & Customer Development
- Process, enter,
and acknowledge customer orders and inquiries received by telephone, email, fax, or walk-in in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries and provide appropriate product recommendations and solutions.
- Develop strong relationships with existing customers and identify opportunities to increase customer loyalty and sales.
- Provide prompt callbacks and follow-up on customer inquiries, quotations, orders, and outstanding opportunities.
- Maintain regular communication with assigned customers to understand their changing product and business requirements.
- Maintain strong customer relations and treat all customers in a respectful and courteous manner at all times.
- Ensure customers receive a positive and skilled experience when dealing with POMAR.
Technical Sales & Product Support
- Provide technical product support and troubleshooting assistance to customers.
- Identify customer requirements and recommend appropriate products and solutions.
- Develop an understanding of transportation and industrial applications in order to effectively support customer needs.
- Assist customers in identifying alternative or complementary products where appropriate.
- Research product information and work with internal resources when additional technical or product knowledge is required.
- Communicate product features, applications, availability, and benefits in a clear and professional manner.
- Develop product knowledge across POMAR's hardware, fastener, maintenance, and industrial product lines.
Quotation & Order Management
- Prepare accurate and competitive quotations for customers and prospective customers.
- Follow up on outstanding quotations and identify reasons for lost or delayed opportunities.
- Process customer orders accurately and ensure all relevant information is captured.
- Coordinate with Purchasing and Warehouse Operations to confirm product availability and expected shipment requirements.
- Ensure customer expectations regarding pricing, availability, and delivery are communicated accurately.
Internal Coordination
- Work closely with other members of the Sales team, Warehouse Operations, Purchasing, Accounting, and Management to ensure customer requirements are handled accurately and efficiently.
- Coordinate customer orders to ensure shipments are completed accurately and on time.
- Communicate product availability, customer requirements, special orders, and other relevant information to the appropriate internal departments.
- Ensure customer complaints and unresolved issues are directed to the appropriate manager for resolution.
- Maintain accurate and organized customer and sales records.
Other Duties
- Assist with sales and customer-related projects as assigned by Sales Management.
- Participate in company initiatives designed to increase sales, customer retention, and market development.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional workspace.
- Stay informed about products, applications, industry trends, and customer requirements relevant to assigned markets.
- Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of inside sales, technical sales, industrial sales, transportation sales, or related wholesale sales experience preferred.
- Previous experience within the transportation, industrial, automotive, OEM, aftermarket, hardware, fastener, or related wholesale industry is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability and desire to generate sales and develop new business, rather than relying solely on inbound customer inquiries.
- Strong sales drive with the ability to identify opportunities and consistently follow up to convert them into business.
- Basic understanding and technical aptitude for transportation and industrial products.
- Ability to understand customer applications and identify appropriate products or solutions.
- Strong telephone, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Professional, confident, and courteous customer-facing manner.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple customer opportunities and priorities simultaneously.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong work ethic with a positive and enthusiastic approach to sales.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with supply chain, ERP, inventory, or wholesale distribution software is considered an asset.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with multiple departments.
What We Offer
- Permanent, full-time employment.
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Salary range of CA$40,000–CA$50,000 per year, depending on experience.
- Compensation package after 90-day probation period
