Senior Accountant

Located in Saskatoon, we are seeking an ambitious and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will take ownership of key month-end close processes, support accurate and timely financial reporting, and contribute to maintaining a strong internal control workplace.

The Senior Accountant will assist with all aspects of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls. This is a highly collaborative role that requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the opportunity to provide data-driven insights that support executive decision-making and the overall success of the organization.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

- Prepare monthly financial statements, monthly working papers, and year-end working papers
- Lead the month-end and year-end financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion
- Analyze financial results and explain budget-to-actual variances, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities
- Assist with the preparation and coordination of the annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Prepare and submit various tax remittances and related filings
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations and calculate financial institution lending covenants.
- Maintain the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals, and depreciation




- Coordinate with internal and external auditors and prepare supporting schedules and documentation as required
- Monitor customer receivables and provide support with collections and credit management activities.
- Participate in regulatory audits, reviews, and related compliance activities
- Review and evaluate accounting processes and policies, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and implement automation or system enhancements
- Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

- CPA Designation
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong knowledge & experience with ERP systems, accounting processes, and practices.
- Strong knowledge & experience with accounting principles, tax regulations, and financial reporting requirements
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel
- Excellent time management, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
- Self-motivated and accountable, with the ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Prior experience in the propane or utility industry is an advantage but not required.
