Position Summary
The Warehouse Team Lead leads day-to-day operations on the warehouse floor and is Nerval Corporation's front-line owner of health & safety administration for the warehouse team. This role combines hands-on supervision of warehouse staff, logistics, fleet and ERP duties with direct responsibility for the warehouse's WCB injury reporting, toolbox talk auditing, and SiteDocs documentation and sign-off. The Warehouse Team Lead ensures that every shipment, vehicle, piece of equipment, and team member meets Nerval's standards — safely, accurately, and on time.
Key Responsibilities
1. People & Team Leadership
- Directly supervise, coach, and support all warehouse staff, fostering a culture aligned with Nerval's values of Love, Trust, and Drive.
- Set clear daily priorities, assign tasks, and monitor individual and team performance.
- Conduct or contribute to performance check-ins, and escalate performance concerns to HR in a timely manner.
- Promote a respectful, inclusive, and accountable workplace environment.
2. Onboarding, Offboarding & Recruitment Compliance
- Partner with HR to ensure all warehouse hires go through Nerval's established recruitment process before starting.
- Confirm that new team members hold all required certifications and licences (e.g., forklift operator certification, driver's abstracts) prior to performing regulated tasks.
- Ensure new employees complete orientation, including site-specific H&S; and equipment induction, in the required timeframe.
- Coordinate with HR on offboarding steps — including return of PPE, access cards, and equipment — when a team member exits.
- Flag any gaps in certification or compliance to HR immediately.
- Verify that all new warehouse employees hold valid right to work documentation in Canada prior to their commencement date, in accordance with federal and provincial immigration requirements.
3. Health & Safety
- Enforce all Nerval health and safety policies and procedures within the warehouse at all times.
- Ensure all staff wear and properly use required PPE daily; conduct routine checks and correct non-compliance promptly.
- Maintain PPE inventory — tracking condition, availability, and timely replacement so no employee is without serviceable equipment.
- Conduct or support regular safety audits, workplace inspections, and incident investigations for the warehouse.
- Participate in the Joint Health & Safety Committee as the warehouse representative, including formal bi-annual facility inspections.
- Organize and lead safety committees and meetings as required by Alberta OHS.
3a. WCB Claims & Injury Reporting
- Act as the warehouse's primary point of contact for reporting work-related injuries and illnesses,
completing the Incident Reporting Form and notifying the OHS Manager (or, in their absence, the Vice President) immediately.
- Complete and submit the Employer's Report of Injury to WCB-Alberta within the required 72-hour window, and ensure the Employee Injury Kit is fully documented before it is forwarded.
- Coordinate Modified Work offers and Return-to-Work plans for injured or ill warehouse employees, in partnership with the OHS Manager, based on the treating physician's Fitness for Work assessment.
- Maintain WCB claim files and correspondence for warehouse employees as strictly confidential, per Nerval's WCB Claims Management standard.
3b. Toolbox Talk & Safety Documentation Audits
- Audit toolbox talks and safety meetings across all warehouse shifts for completeness, quality, and consistency with current H&S; topics.
- Review and countersign Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs), toolbox talk records, workplace inspection checklists, and incident/near-miss reports submitted through SiteDocs, ensuring documentation is complete and accurate before filing.
- Follow up directly with supervisors or workers where SiteDocs entries are missing, incomplete, or overdue, and escalate recurring gaps to the OHS Manager.
- Maintain sign-off records and safety documentation, inspection logs, and training records for the warehouse in accordance with Nerval's record-retention requirements.
4. Logistics — Loading & Offloading
- Oversee all inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring loads are received, verified, stored, and dispatched accurately and on schedule.
- Coordinate with project teams, suppliers, and freight carriers to align delivery windows with operational needs.
- Ensure proper handling of products to minimise damage — especially high-value or fragile items.
- Maintain accurate receiving records and reconcile shipments against purchase orders in Business Central or packing lists, as applicable.
- Identify and resolve shipping discrepancies, shortages, or damages in a timely manner.
5. Fleet & Equipment Maintenance
- Manage all warehouse vehicles and equipment (forklifts, trucks, pallet jacks, etc.), ensuring they are clean, roadworthy, and in protected operating condition.
- Schedule and track preventive maintenance and mandatory servicing in accordance with manufacturer requirements and regulatory standards.
- Maintain a maintenance log for each vehicle and piece of powered equipment.
- Arrange repairs promptly and keep leadership informed of any equipment out of service.
- Ensure drivers and equipment operators hold current, valid licences and certifications before operating any vehicle or machine.
6. ERP Administration & Product Registration
- Serve as the warehouse-side owner of Microsoft Business Central, ensuring accurate, up-to-date inventory records.
- Oversee barcoding and scanning processes — ensuring all products are correctly labelled and scanned at each stage of movement.
- Coordinate UPC/barcode registration through GS1 Canada, including registering new product codes online and ensuring they are entered correctly in Business Central.
- Identify and resolve ERP discrepancies, working with the operations and finance teams as needed.
- Champion adoption of ERP best practices among warehouse staff and escalate system issues to the appropriate team.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of warehouse, logistics, or operations experience, ideally in a trade, supply, or FF&E; environment.
- Proven experience leading or supervising a team in a hands-on operational setting.
- Post-secondary education in logistics, supply chain, business, or a related field is an asset.
Certifications & Licencing
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence (or applicable class for vehicles operated) with a clean driver's abstract.
- Forklift operator certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- WHMIS 2015 certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Alberta OHS legislation and workplace health and safety practices, including WCB claims processes.
- Comfortable working in SiteDocs (or willing and able to learn quickly) to review, complete, and sign off on safety documentation.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems; experience with Microsoft Business Central or similar is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with GS1 barcoding standards and UPC registration processes is an asset.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
- Clear, professional verbal and written communication.
- A collaborative approach to working with HR, the OHS Manager, project teams, and leadership.
