About the Role

We are looking for a reliable and experienced Power Shear Operator / Metal Fabrication Laborer to join our busy metal fabrication and welding shop in Edmonton.

This is a hands-on position that combines power shear operation with general shop labor duties. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment and be able to work accurately with measurements, drawings and instructions.

The primary responsibility of this position is to set up and operate a power shear to cut sheet and plate material to specified dimensions. When shear work is not required, the employee will assist with material handling, shipping and receiving, shop organization and other general labour duties.

Key Responsibilities

Power Shear Operation

- Set up and operate a power shear to cut metal sheets and plates to specified dimensions
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and work instructions
- Measure material accurately using an imperial and metric tape measure, gauges, squares, templates and other measuring tools
- Install, align and adjust shear knives and blades as required
- Set and adjust machine controls, guides, stops and cutting settings
- Position and secure material manually or with the use of lifting equipment or hoists
- Test and adjust cutting action to ensure material is cut accurately to specification
- Inspect finished material for correct dimensions, flatness, burrs, surface defects and overall quality
- Make adjustments when required to maintain accurate cuts
- Lubricate, clean and perform basic routine maintenance on the shear
- Maintain the machine and surrounding work area in a clean and safe condition
- Follow all company safety procedures and equipment operating requirements

General Shop Labour

- Handle, move and organize metal materials and finished products
- Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs
- Assist with shipping and receiving
- Load and unload materials as required




- Operate a forklift and other shop equipment when qualified
- Assist with material preparation and general production duties
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe shop setting
- Follow instructions from supervisors and production staff
- Assist other areas of the shop when required
- Work overtime when required

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

- Previous experience operating a power shear or similar metal fabrication equipment
- Ability to accurately read both imperial and metric measurements
- Experience reading blueprints and fabrication drawings
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Ability to retain information and follow instructions
- Ability to safely handle large sheets and metal materials
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Strong work ethic and willingness to assist with general shop duties
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and physically demanding fabrication shop
- Forklift experience is considered an asset
- Shipping and receiving experience is considered an asset

Schedule

- Monday to Friday
- 8-hour shift
- 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- Overtime may be required depending on workload
