About the Role

This position is ideal for an experienced Equine RVT who enjoys taking initiative, leading by example, and playing an integral role in hospital operations.

Working directly alongside the Hospital Veterinarian, you'll coordinate patient care from admission through discharge, ensuring treatments are delivered efficiently, documentation is current, and changes in patient condition are recognized and communicated promptly. This role provides the prospect to develop continuity with hospitalized cases while functioning as a dependable technical partner to the attending veterinarian.

You'll work a 4-on/4-off rotation, providing consistent hospital coverage while enjoying predictable scheduled time off.

You'll play a leading role in:

- Delivering exceptional nursing care to hospitalized patients
- Medication administration, treatment planning, monitoring, nutrition and fluid therapy within RVT scope
- Organizing medications and coordinating treatment schedules
- Recognizing changes in patient status and communicating findings promptly to the attending veterinarian
- Coordinating diagnostics, laboratory testing, sample collection and procedures
- Maintaining accurate medical records and invoicing throughout hospitalization
- Providing veterinarian-approved client updates and documenting communication
- Managing hospital whiteboards, treatment schedules and real-time patient documentation
- Coordinating smooth shift-to-shift patient handovers
- Supporting and coaching hospital assistants and veterinary students
- Maintaining hospital readiness through biosecurity, organization, stocking and equipment preparation

What We're Looking For

Required





- Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) certification
- Confident equine nursing skills
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation

Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone with:

- Previous experience in an equine hospital, referral practice, emergency hospital, or advanced ambulatory practice
- Confidence with anesthesia, patient monitoring, catheter placement, fluid therapy and advanced hospital nursing
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to calmly prioritize patient needs in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- A desire to mentor junior team members while maintaining accountability for exceptional patient care
- A proactive mindset and commitment to continuous learning

Compensation: $28–35/hour depending on experience

Location

Westhills EVS is located just 10 minutes west of Stony Plain and 30 minutes west of Edmonton, with easy access from Highway 16.

Please note that reliable transportation is required, as our clinic is not accessible by public transit.
