About Tutoring Solutions

Tutoring Solutions provides personalized academic support to students throughout Windsor–Essex County and online. We help students strengthen their skills, develop independence, and become more confident learners.

We are looking for dependable, knowledgeable Academic Mentors who connect well with children and teens and make challenging concepts easier to understand.

Position Overview

As an Academic Mentor, you will provide tutoring tailored to students’ learning needs. Sessions may include subject instruction, homework support, study skills, organization, and preparation for assessments.

This is a part-time, independent contractor opportunity. Student matches depend on your subject expertise, availability, location, and family needs. Assignments and hours are not guaranteed.

Responsibilities

- Deliver engaging tutoring sessions based on each student’s goals.
- Break down concepts into clear, manageable steps.
- Adapt your approach to suit different learning needs.
- Help students develop effective study habits and organizational skills.
- Encourage independent thinking and problem-solving.
- Prepare appropriate activities and learning materials.
- Maintain brief progress notes and communicate with families.
- Keep your availability and session information current in our booking system.
- Arrive prepared and follow through on accepted commitments.

Required Qualifications
- Robust knowledge of the subjects and grade levels you wish to tutor.
- Experience supporting children or teens through tutoring, teaching, mentoring, coaching, or a related role.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Patience, professionalism,



and reliable follow-through.
- Ability to explain concepts in different ways.
- Consistent availability to support ongoing student relationships.
- Ability to provide references and complete appropriate screening before working with students.

Preferred Qualifications
- Current enrolment in or completion of a relevant college or university program.
- Ontario College of Teachers certification or enrolment in a teacher education program.
- French proficiency or experience supporting French Immersion students.
- Expertise in secondary-level mathematics or science.
- Experience supporting students with ADHD, learning disabilities, or other learning needs.

OCT certification is an asset but is not required. Specialized intervention assignments, including Orton-Gillingham instruction, require relevant training. Subjects and Areas of Support

- Elementary literacy and mathematics
- French and French Immersion
- English, reading comprehension, and writing
- Secondary mathematics
- Secondary science
- Study skills, organization, and academic planning

Applicants should identify the specific subjects and grade levels they can confidently teach.

Scheduling and Location





- Sessions are arranged around agreed-upon availability and student needs.
- After-school, evening, and weekend availability is an asset.
- In-person mentors must have reliable transportation to agreed-upon session locations.
- Online mentors must have reliable internet, a suitable device, and a quiet, professional workspace.
