PEI Atlantic Baptist Homes – Centennial Court is seeking a full time Activity Worker to join the Recreation Department at our 116-bed long term care community in Charlottetown, PEI.

The Activity Worker supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of recreation programs and activities that promote residents' social, physical, and emotional well being. Working collaboratively with nursing staff and other members of the care team, the Activities Worker II helps create meaningful opportunities for residents to remain active, engaged, and connected within the community.

The successful candidate must have the ability to promote a positive and safe environment, work effectively with residents with varying needs and abilities, and establish positive working relationships with residents, families, volunteers, staff, and other members of the care team.

Key Responsibilities

- Schedules and directs social activities and events.
- Conducts a regular schedule of passive and active recreation programs.
- Arranges resident outings.
- Leads exercise programs.
- Assists residents with activities of daily living, such as feeding, as required.
- Consults with the RN and nursing staff as necessary.
- Maintains activity records for residents' legal charts.
- Schedules and conducts Resident Council meetings and records meeting minutes.
- Maintains inventory of supplies for activity programs and purchases supplies as required.
- Observes and reports changes in residents' physical or emotional status to the RN.
- Coordinates and supervises volunteers.




- Follows Infection Prevention and Control routine practices and additional precautions as required.
- Assists with orientation as requested.
- Attends in service training and meetings as required.
- Participates in fire drills and other required safety activities.

Qualifications

- Post secondary education in Recreation or an equivalent diploma in Human Services Development from a recognized accredited university or college.
- Previous experience working with seniors or in a long term care workplace is considered an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a care team.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and lead recreational programs and activities.
