Job Overview The Students’ Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable American Sign Language (ASL) Workshop Facilitator to lead an engaging, beginner-friendly workshop as part of our Culture Café event series at MacEwan University in Edmonton.

This session will introduce participants to American Sign Language in an interactive and accessible format. The facilitator will lead the ASL workshop, introduce participants to basic ASL signs and communication techniques, and create an engaging environment where participants can learn through demonstrations, practice, and interactive activities.

Responsibilities

- Lead an engaging and interactive introductory ASL workshop for event participants
- Teach basic ASL signs, phrases, and communication techniques appropriate for beginners
- Demonstrate signs clearly and guide participants through hands-on practice
- Prepare or adapt activities that encourage participation and learning
- Answer participants’ questions and provide guidance throughout the workshop
- Create a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
- Adapt the workshop based on participants’ experience and comfort level




- Collaborate with the event organizer regarding the workshop format and specific event needs - Maintain professionalism and punctuality throughout the event Requirements
- Solid proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Experience teaching, facilitating, or presenting ASL in community, educational, or workshop settings
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to engage participants with different levels of familiarity with ASL
- Comfortable leading an interactive group workshop
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and ASL as a language is considered an asset
- Relevant ASL teaching, interpreting, or professional credentials are considered an asset

Compensation: $450 one time payment. -Invoice is required -
