Commissionaires Southern Alberta is seeking dedicated and experienced individuals to join our volunteer Board of Governors, with a particular focus on candidates who bring strong finance or legal expertise.

As a non-profit organization, we provide professional security and related services across Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Suffield—creating meaningful employment opportunities and support for veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces and Allied Forces, veterans of the RCMP and other first responder agencies, and their families. Nationally, the Corps of Commissionaires is proud to be Canada’s largest private sector employer of veterans and the only national not-for-profit security company.

We operate under a policy-model board focused on governance, strategic direction, oversight, and long-term organizational sustainability. The ideal candidates will bring senior-level financial acumen, with experience in one or more areas such as financial management, accounting, audit, risk oversight, budgeting, investment stewardship, or enterprise sustainability.

Experience reviewing financial statements, advising on financial controls, or serving on an audit, finance, or risk committee would be particularly valuable.

Legal expertise is also highly valued,



particularly in areas relevant to non-profit governance, contracts, employment matters, regulatory compliance, risk management including cybersecurity would be an asset, privacy, or public-sector/security services environments. Candidates need not be practising lawyers but should be able to contribute sound judgment on legal, fiduciary, compliance, and governance considerations affecting the organization.

Preferred attributes include demonstrated integrity, collaborative decision-making, strategic thinking, comfort with fiduciary responsibilities, and an understanding of the distinction between governance and operations. Previous board, committee, executive, or skilled advisory experience is considered an asset.
