Career Mentor for U of T Life Sciences Students

Job Type: Part time / Contract

Location: Toronto, ON / Remote (Zoom)

Compensation: CAD $1,000 per student/program

Program Duration: Approximately 6–8 weeks, maximum 12.5 hours

About the Role

Career Mentor for University of Toronto undergraduate students currently studying Life Sciences.

The mentor will provide 1:1 career guidance to 2nd–4th year U of T Life Sciences students preparing for internships, summer jobs, research opportunities, and post-graduation employment.

The goal is to teach students how to independently manage the career process:

Career Goal → Search → Apply → Network → Interview

This is a mentoring position. The mentor guides the student through the process rather than applying for positions on the student's behalf.

Key Responsibilities

- Explore career paths relevant to U of T Life Sciences students
- Help students identify internships, summer jobs, research positions, and New Grad opportunities
- Guide effective job and internship search strategies
- Review resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles
- Teach professional networking and outreach strategies
- Conduct mock interviews and provide feedback
- Develop practical weekly action plans and monitor progress
- Provide individualized guidance based on each student's experience and career goals
- Submit brief mentoring records and a final report to UhakDesign

Qualifications





-We are looking for someone with strong knowledge of Life Sciences career pathways and the Canadian job market.

-Korean language proficiency is an asset.

Preferred candidates include

- U of T Life Sciences graduates
- U of T graduate, Master's, PhD, or professional-school students with relevant experience
- Professionals working in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, clinical research, laboratory research, public health, or related fields
- Candidates with firsthand experience obtaining internships, research positions, or skilled employment in Life Sciences

University of Toronto experience is strongly preferred.

Previous mentoring, recruiting, coaching, or student advising experience is an asset.

Program & Compensation

Mentoring is conducted primarily 1:1 via Zoom.

Each student program runs approximately 6–8 weeks, with a maximum of 12.5 total service hours.

Mentors must maintain professional communication, respect each student's academic and career plans, and must not guarantee internships, interviews, or job offers.
