: The RM of Orkney is currently looking for an experienced equipment operator to fill an open casual/relief General Equipment Operator-Labourer position. This position will operate and maintain a variety of equipment. This position will be scheduled on an as needed, on-call basis. This position does not have a guaranteed amount of hours.

Qualifications:

WHMIS, TDG, First Aid, Ground Disturbance Level 2, Rigging and Trenching, OH&S; Certificates must be held or obtained

Have working knowledge of Motor Grader, Backhoe, Mower and Tractor including operation and service

Have a working knowledge of road maintenance, snow plowing

Have a working knowledge of backhoe techniques including installation of culverts

Have good record keeping skills

Willing to learn to operate other equipment and complete other tasks

Must operate in accordance with bylaws, policies, and legislation

Have good record keeping and time management skills and willingness to follow directions

Must be capable of working with minimal or without supervision as well as in a team environment

Must be of sound mind and body with the ability to lift up to 50lbs, have the physical stamina to complete laboured tasks and be able to work outside in all weather conditions

Must possess a valid class 5 drivers license with a reliable form of transportation





Must be familiar or able to learn electronic tracking/document applications

Must be able to work flexible hours depending on weather conditions and scope of work

Must possess a phone that is compatible with applications such as SiteDocs

Duties:

Operation of Motor Grader, Backhoe, Tractor and Mower To perform other miscellaneous works such as fencing, mowing, installing signage, rock picking, cleaning the shop, picking up supplies, etc. and other duties as determined by the Public Works Lead Hand

Servicing, maintaining and assisting in repairs of various equipment

Maintaining, repairing roads and installing culverts

Fuel machinery properly

Complete necessary minor repairs

Change blades as required

Make sure machine/equipment is in safe operating condition (walk around check; oil, antifreeze, tires, any leaks, etc; an operational check shall be done daily) including completing pre and post inspections and corresponding reports

Keep machinery clean inside and out

Complete routine maintenance and repairs to various equipment

Make sure the engines are properly warmed up before operating

Maintain a safe, neat and clean workshop setting

Keep track of and report inventories, signs that are damaged or missing, damaged culvert ends, and other problems
