Lanart Rug Inc. is looking for a reliable and experienced Class 1 Container Truck Driver / Forklift Operator / Shop Support employee to join our team in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

This is a permanent, full time position combining container transportation, forklift operation, loading and unloading, and general shop support.

The primary driving responsibilities involve picking up and returning containers at port terminals, transporting loaded containers, returning empty containers, and completing the related shipping and interchange documentation. Between driving assignments, the employee will assist with forklift work, material handling, and general shop duties.

Responsibilities

- Operate a Class 1 tractor and container chassis safely and professionally
- Pick up loaded containers from port terminals and deliver them as required
- Return empty containers to the appropriate terminals or depots
- Coordinate and follow scheduled port and terminal appointments
- Complete container interchange, pickup, delivery, inspection, and shipping documentation
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor, chassis, and equipment
- Safely couple and uncouple tractors and container chassis
- Ensure containers and loads are properly secured before transport
- Operate a forklift to load, unload, move, and organize materials
- Assist with general shop, warehouse, and material-handling duties between driving assignments
- Follow all company safety procedures and applicable transportation requirements
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, terminal personnel, suppliers, customers,



and the internal team

Schedule The normal schedule is approximately 40 hours per week. Because the position involves port and terminal operations, start and finish times may vary depending on:

- Port and terminal appointment times
- Terminal operating hours
- Container availability and arrivals
- Traffic and loading or unloading requirements

Candidates must be comfortable with reasonable schedule flexibility. Whenever possible, changes to the normal schedule will be communicated in advance, although occasional short-notice adjustments may be required due to port or terminal operations. All working time will be paid, including required shop work and required waiting, loading, and unloading time. Overtime will be paid at the applicable rate.

Requirements

- Valid Quebec Class 1 driver’s licence
- Required F endorsement for air brakes
- M endorsement where required for operation of a manual-transmission vehicle
- Ability and experience operating a tractor with a container chassis
- Relevant Class 1 truck-driving experience
- Container-hauling experience strongly preferred
- Experience with port terminal pickups, returns, and appointment procedures is an asset
- Knowledge of safe tractor/chassis coupling and uncoupling procedures
- Knowledge of container and load securement practices
- Strong vehicle and equipment inspection practices




- Valid forklift certification or training documentation
- Practical forklift operating experience
- Willingness to complete site-specific forklift training and a practical competency assessment on our equipment
- Good driving record
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Comfortable performing hands-on shop and warehouse duties between driving assignments
- Professional, safety-conscious, and able to work independently

Compensation Starting wage of C$25–28 per hour, depending on relevant Class 1 driving, container-hauling, port terminal, and forklift experience.

At 40 hours per week, this represents approximately C$52,000–C$58,240 per year before overtime.
