Commercial HVAC / Refrigeration Service Technician

3rd Year Apprentice to Journeymen

$43.30-$59.17/hour + full union benefits, pension and company vehicle

Advanced Refrigeration HVAC is looking for an experienced HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician to join our Calgary service team.

We are looking for a strong 3rd or 4th year apprentice, Journeyperson, or experienced Senior Journeyperson with a solid background in commercial HVAC and refrigeration service.

This position is best suited to a technician who is comfortable working independently, diagnosing equipment problems, completing repairs, communicating with customers, and taking ownership of service calls from start to finish.

Compensation

Current UA Local 488 Refrigeration & A/C Mechanic base wage rates effective May 3, 2026:

- 3rd Year Apprentice: $43.30/hour
- 4th Year Apprentice: $49.07/hour
- Journeyperson: $57.73/hour
- Senior Journeyperson: $59.17/hour

In addition to base wages, the union package includes vacation and statutory holiday pay, health and welfare benefits, pension and additional union perks. Hiring wage will be based on apprenticeship level, certification and experience.

Responsibilities

- Troubleshoot, service, repair and maintain commercial refrigeration, air conditioning and heating systems
- Diagnose electrical, refrigeration and mechanical equipment failures
- Perform preventative maintenance and equipment inspections
- Complete refrigeration repairs and component replacements
- Perform brazing, welding, plumbing and other related mechanical work as required




- Respond to service calls efficiently and professionally
- Communicate equipment condition, repairs and recommendations clearly with customers
- Identify deficiencies and recommend appropriate repairs or maintenance
- Complete accurate service documentation, including work performed and materials used
- Work independently while also collaborating with other technicians on larger repairs and projects
- Maintain strong professional relationships with our customers

Qualifications

- Minimum 3rd Year Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic Apprentice
- 4th Year Apprentices and Journeymen strongly encouraged to apply
- Proven commercial HVAC and refrigeration service experience
- Strong refrigeration, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting ability
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics and equipment documentation
- Ability to diagnose problems independently and determine appropriate repairs
- Strong communication and customer-service skills
- Dependable, organized and able to manage service calls efficiently
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Able to perform the physical requirements of the trade and work in varying indoor and outdoor conditions
