Overview

We’re seeking a capable, proactive, and self-directed individual to step into a part-time Supportive Independent Living role within a well-established support team.

This is a community-based position (15 hours/week) focused on supporting an adult man with a developmental disability in both employment settings and community-based independent living development.

The role operates within a structured, collaborative support environment, with clearly defined expectations, communication systems, and ongoing coordination with the family and in-home support staff.

This position is best suited to someone comfortable working independently in dynamic environments while maintaining consistency, solid judgment, and clear communication across a broader team.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

- Facilitating participation and skill development in employment settings (on-site tasks, employer and coworker relationships), where required
- Assisting with job search efforts (employer outreach, interview preparation) as needed
- Coordinating communication between the individual, employer, and team as support evolves
- Supporting community involvement through social, recreational, and peer-based activities
- Reinforcing independence in daily living skills (budgeting, transportation, scheduling, decision-making)
- Developing skill progression (public transit, community navigation, independent planning)
- Designing and facilitating structured activities (e.g., sports teams volunteering and dating) focused on independence
- Maintaining clear documentation and communication with the family and support team

- Strong leadership skills
- Work independently in community-based, unstructured environments while upholding expectations
- Strong situational judgment, adaptability, and problem-solving ability





High level of initiative, reliability, accountability, and follow-through
- Proven organizational and planning skills with effective time and priority management
- Build and maintain meaningful relationships in community and employment settings
- Well-developed computer and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders.

SCHEDULE
- 15 hours per week
- Primarily daytime hours, with occasional evenings and weekends as needed
- Hours are typically community-based activities with employment support as needed

REQUIRED
- Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check (within one year)
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

NICE-TO-HAVES
- Post-secondary studies in psychology, social work, behavioural science, or related field
- Experience with employment support or job coaching
- Involvement in fitness, nutrition, or athletic organizations
- Knowledge of community resources

ENVIRONMENT
- Community-based across employment sites, recreational settings, and public environments
- Structured support system with clear communication and documentation expectations
- Ongoing collaboration with the family and in-home support staff
- Defined systems in place to support consistency, accountability, and continuity of support

COMPENSATION Hourly wage of $20.24

Additional compensation includes

- Mileage reimbursement
- Activity reimbursement (where applicable)
