Hours: 35 hours per week

Wage: $34.00 per hour

Reports to: Principal

Tl’azt’en Education is seeking a reliable, organized, and caring Cook to provide nutritious meals and snacks for children attending Eugene Joseph Elementary School and Sum Yaz Daycare.

The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the health, well-being, learning, and development of children by providing healthy, appealing, and culturally appropriate meals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Plan and prepare nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and snacks.
- Prepare age-appropriate meals for daycare and elementary school children.
- Accommodate documented food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special dietary requirements.
- Incorporate traditional and culturally appropriate foods where appropriate.
- Follow FoodSafe, sanitation, food handling, and applicable childcare licensing requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen.
- Monitor food temperatures, expiry dates, storage, and food quality.
- Maintain food and kitchen inventory.
- Prepare grocery and supply lists and communicate ordering needs to the supervisor.
- Receive and properly store food deliveries.
- Minimize food waste through appropriate meal planning and portion control.
- Maintain kitchen equipment and report repairs or maintenance concerns.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, daycare staff, and administration.
- Support positive and welcoming mealtimes for children.
- Respect and support Tl’azt’en culture, traditional foods, and community protocols.
- Perform other duties related to the position as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

- Previous experience preparing meals in a school, daycare,



institutional, commercial, or similar kitchen.
- FoodSafe certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices.
- Ability to prepare nutritious meals for large groups.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work respectfully with children, families, staff, and community members.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Successful criminal record check/vulnerable sector screening as required.
- Ability to meet applicable workplace and childcare licensing requirements.

Preferred:
- Culinary training or skilled cooking experience.
- Experience preparing meals for young children.
- Experience working in a school or childcare setting.
- Knowledge of traditional Indigenous foods and food practices.
- Knowledge of Tl’azt’en culture and community.
- First Aid certification.
