Do you enjoy getting out into the community, planning activities, supporting a team, and making sure participants are genuinely engaged and having a great day?
Walk of Grace Residential Services Inc. – Passageways Day Program is looking for an experienced Assistant Day Program Coordinator to join our growing team.
Passageways is a busy, community-focused day program supporting adults with developmental disabilities, autism, dual diagnoses, and varying support needs. Our program is about much more than spending the day inside a building. Participants take part in community outings, recreation, cooking and baking, fitness, life-skills development, arts and crafts, social activities, volunteering, sensory activities, special events, and individualized programming.
We want our participants to have meaningful days, build independence, develop friendships, try new things, and be active members of their community.
About the Role
As an Assistant Day Program Coordinator, you will work closely with our Lead Day Program Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator, frontline staff, families, and management team to help oversee the day-to-day operation of Passageways.
This is a hands-on leadership position. You won't spend your day sitting behind a desk. You will be on the floor with participants and staff, helping organize activities, leading outings, problem-solving, supporting staff, communicating with families, and making sure the program runs smoothly.
What You'll Be Doing
- Assist with the daily operation and coordination of a busy adult developmental-services day program.
- Help develop fun, structured and meaningful weekly and monthly programming.
- Plan and participate in community outings, recreational activities, cooking and baking, fitness, arts and crafts, life-skills programming, social activities and special events.
- Encourage participants to build independence, confidence, communication skills and meaningful community connections.
- Assist with developing and implementing Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and participant goals.
- Help create activity schedules and ensure programming is organized and communicated to staff.
- Provide leadership, direction and day-to-day support to frontline staff and volunteers.
- Work directly alongside staff and participants when additional support is needed.
- Help ensure appropriate staffing, participant supervision and program coverage throughout the day.
- Support participants with developmental disabilities, autism, dual diagnoses and behavioural or complex support needs.
- Monitor documentation, daily notes, incident reports, progress tracking and other required program records.
- Communicate professionally and collaboratively with families, caregivers, case managers and community partners.
- Help organize community partnerships, volunteering opportunities and inclusive activities.
- Assist with staff orientation, coaching and on-the-job training.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, welcoming and safe program environment.
- Bring new ideas to the team and continuously look for ways to make Passageways more engaging, inclusive and fun.
- Assist the Lead Coordinator and management team with other operational responsibilities as required.
Who We're Looking For Previous experience helping coordinate, supervise or operate a day program for adults with developmental disabilities is required for this position.
The ideal candidate will also have:
- Robust experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities, autism and/or dual diagnoses.
- Previous leadership, supervisory, senior staff or coordinator experience within developmental services.
- A good understanding of person-centred programming and individualized support.
- Experience developing activities, community outings and participant programming.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- The confidence to provide direction and support to frontline staff.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy program environment.
- A positive, energetic and creative personality.
- A willingness to be hands-on and actively involved with participants and staff.
- Strong documentation and computer skills.
- A valid driver's licence and ability to participate in community-based programming would be an asset.
Why Join Passageways? This is a great opportunity for someone who already understands developmental-services day programming and is ready to take on additional leadership responsibility.
You'll be joining an established team with a Lead Day Program Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator, while helping support a growing program and bringing your own ideas, experience and creativity to the table.
We offer a Monday-to-Friday daytime schedule with evenings and weekends off, extended health benefits, pension eligibility following probation, and the opportunity to build a long-term career within a growing organization.
Most importantly, this is a position where you can help create the kind of program where participants look forward to coming in every morning.
How to Apply
Please submit your resume and cover letter outlining your experience working in or helping operate a day program for adults with developmental disabilities.
We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
