Drafting Technician – Building Design Engineering The Drafting Technician supports the Building Design Engineering Department by preparing accurate and detailed drawings and documentation for commercial, industrial, and other building projects. Working closely with Building Designers, Engineers, Project Managers, and other project team members, this position translates design concepts, technical information, and project requirements into clear and coordinated construction and permit drawings.

The Drafting Technician is responsible for producing and maintaining drawings throughout the project lifecycle, incorporating design changes, coordinating information from multiple disciplines, and ensuring drawings meet company standards and applicable codes and requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Prepare detailed 2D drawings and documentation for building projects based on design concepts, sketches, specifications, engineering information, and project requirements.
- Develop site plans, floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, roof plans, elevations, building sections, wall sections, details, schedules, and other drawing components as required.
- Prepare drawings suitable for permitting, tendering, construction, and project documentation.
- Assist with the development of preliminary design concepts and drawing layouts.
- Develop and maintain complete drawing sets in accordance with established company standards and project requirements.
- Incorporate revisions and design changes accurately and efficiently throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure dimensions, notes, references, details, and other drawing information are accurate, complete, and coordinated.
- Work closely with Engineers, Project Managers, and other disciplines to coordinate project information.
- Incorporate engineering information and consultant drawings into building drawing sets.
- Identify discrepancies, conflicts, or missing information and communicate them to the appropriate project team member.




- Participate in project meetings and coordination discussions as required.
- Develop and apply working knowledge of applicable building codes, standards, municipal requirements, and permitting processes relevant to assigned projects.
- Assist the project team in identifying code-related drawing requirements and information requiring review by the appropriate qualified professional.
- Maintain organized project files and follow established naming, filing, revision, and document-control procedures.
- Complete drawing checks and quality-control reviews prior to issuing drawings.
- Assist with preparing drawing packages for municipal submissions, client review, tender, and construction.
- Maintain templates, standard details, and other drafting resources as directed.
- Manage assigned drafting tasks and meet established project deadlines, seeking clarification when project information or drafting requirements are unclear.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of drafting standards, templates, workflows, and department processes.
- Communicate professionally with coworkers, clients, consultants, contractors, and municipal representatives as appropriate to the role.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Diploma or certificate in Building Design, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
- Previous experience in architectural drafting, engineering drafting, or a similar technical drafting environment.
- Proficiency with REVIT, AutoCAD and other applicable drafting and design software.




- Experience producing detailed building drawings and drawing sets.
- Working knowledge of building construction methods, materials, and terminology.
- Familiarity with the Alberta Building Code, Energy Code and municipal permitting requirements is an asset.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, sketches, specifications, and engineering information.
- Strong understanding of drafting standards, drawing organization, dimensions, annotations, and document control.
- Experience with Revit and AUTOCAD. Other BIM software is an asset.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary engineering or consulting environment is an asset.

Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
