We are seeking a Professional Electrical Engineer (PEng) with hands-on experience and deep technical knowledge in micro Combined Heat and Power (mCHP) systems, specifically tailored for residential, multifamily, and commercial applications. The ideal candidate will take ownership of utility interconnection processes, electrical system design, project management, system troubleshooting, and technical reporting.

You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, project managers, utility companies, and installation contractors—to deliver highly efficient distributed energy solutions to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Development:

Design electrical systems for mCHP installations including wiring diagrams, load calculations, control systems, and interconnection applications with utility/grid. Support the integration of mCHP with solar PV, battery storage, and smart building systems.

Project Engineering:

Lead electrical engineering efforts through project life cycles from concept through commissioning.

Coordinate with mechanical, civil, and architectural teams on multidisciplinary projects.

Ensure all designs meet relevant electrical codes (Canadian Electrical Code, Alberta Electrical Code, CSA, UL, IEEE) and interconnection standards.

Prepare documentation for installation, permitting, and utility approval, and AHJ inspections.

Testing & Validation:

Develop and execute test plans for manufactured and prototype systems, and commissioning of installations.

Troubleshoot and resolve field issues, improve system reliability and efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

Licensed Professional Engineer (PEng) in Electrical Engineering.

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in electrical design and engineering.

Strong knowledge of asynchronous and synchronous mCHP generation technologies.

Knowledge of power electronics, load management, and building electrical systems.

Knowledge of distributed energy, mCHP or microgrid systems

Knowledge of NEC, IEEE standards, UL standards, NFPA 70E, and relevant interconnection codes.

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, or similar electrical design and analysis software.

Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary energy projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with residential and commercial-scale CHP technologies.

Experience with mCHP, cogeneration, or other hybrid thermal-electric systems.

Experience working with residential and multifamily energy systems, including load balancing and energy optimization.

Knowledge of DER interconnection requirements in Alberta.

Working knowledge of energy monitoring systems (EMS/BMS) and SCADA integration.

Working knowledge of smart grid, demand response, or building automation.

Understanding of thermal-electrical co-generation, combustion systems, and HVAC integration.

Familiarity with microgrids and related management technologies.

Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and client engagement.

Soft Skills & Attributes:

Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and client-facing skills.

Self-motivated and capable of working both independently and within a team.

Organized, detail-oriented, and committed to project success.

Experience with residential and commercial-scale CHP technologies.

Working knowledge of smart grid, demand response, or building automation.

Understanding of thermal-electrical co-generation, combustion systems, and HVAC integration.

Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and client engagement.

What We Offer:

Opportunity to work on cutting-edge clean energy technology.

Dynamic, mission-driven work environment.

Competitive salary and benefits package.
