Title: Employment Programs Coordinator

Department: Community Programs

Reports to: Community Programs Team Lead and Manager

Status: Full-Time (37.5 hours / week), Term (until September 17th, 2027)

Salary: $50,000 - $53,000

Location: Halifax, NS

Deadline: October 2nd or until the position is filled

Program Overview:

The Employment Programs Coordinator works collaboratively with other employment team members to ensure that the YWCA Halifax Employment programs and supports are as successful as possible. In this role the Employment Coordinator will oversee and coordinate one of our existing employment programs that may include RISE or Ready for Launch. The RISE program works primarily with participants who are in a pre-employment stage and are hoping to enhance life skills, connection and networks, and move closer to employment readiness.



The coordinator works 1-on-1 and in group settings to support participants through this journey.

This may involve workshops, developing resources, online or virtual communication, group and individual supports, and networking. It may also include helping participants find relevant work placements, engaging with employers, supporting participants in their shift to work place settings, etc..

Ready for Launch Program supports youth (ages 18-30 yrs) to take part in 4 weeks of in-class programming (30 hrs) and then an 8 week work experience placement. Coordinators in this program deliver workshops, develop resources, support participants to find work placement experiences and plan next steps.

The Employment Programs

Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all YWCA procedures, policies, and budgets are followed and helps contribute to the advancement and achievement of the YWCA mission, vision, values, guiding principles, strategic plan, business plan, and departmental plan.

Essential Duties of Position:

- Advance the vision and mission of YWCA Halifax
- Support and build capacity for women, girls and gender diverse people

Program Coordination

- Coordinate and administer specific aspects of the program requirements/activities. These may include (but are not limited to) facilitation and program design and delivery, Work Transition Support, relationship development with employers, community engagement, workshops, reporting/evaluation, etc…
- Create recent program content and materials, enhance or modify existing content.
- Develop work plans for areas of responsibility, achieving goals/objectives/outcomes, and reporting on results in relations to work plans. Responsible for tracking results of outcomes/outputs and course correcting as required, ensuring achievement of goalsobjectives.
- Builds networks and collaborate with external partners as needed to build successful pathways for participants.
- Follow policies and procedures
- Conduct evaluation and data collection as needed or required
- Ensure goals and objectives of the programs are met and on track
- Maintains appropriate program record-keeping
- Risk Assessment, planning and action as required
- Report writing (both internally and funder specific)
- Research and Best Practice in relation to the field of employment, HR,



and work readiness.
- Ensure program fits within the vision and mission of the YWCA
- Develops new initiatives as needed or opportunities arise
- Sets goals and plans for sustainability
- Works collaboratively with other Employment Team members to identify, research, design and deliver new programs, workshops, or projects as needed

Financial Management

- Keep expenses in line with existing budget
- Follow policies and procedures for financial spending
- Keep clear financial records

Grant development

- Mobilizes community partners for prospective projects/programs
- Identifies prospective opportunities for grant applications or needs for the program

Other Duties

- Communicates with stakeholders
- Build and maintain meaningful community partnerships
- Serves on Community/Sector task forces and committees as appropriate
- Participates in YWCA and community-based advocacy activities
- Supports partnerships, extension work, and other activities within the YWCA movement
- Ensures confidentiality and data collection
- Other duties as delegated by Manager, Director and/or Executive Director

Working Conditions

- Coordinators usually work in an office environment, but programs and projects may take employees to non-standard workplaces (e.g. workshops in community locations)
- Coordinators usually work standard work week with pre-set office hours but may be required to works some evening and weekends to meet project/program milestones, deadlines or deliver programs/services. Schedules and adjustments approved by Manager.

Special Conditions of Employment Criminal Records Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check Asset to have First Aid, WHIMIS and Mental Health First Aid or Assist.

Qualifications and Experience:

Undergraduate degree in related field or equivalent experience, understanding of employer relations, HR practices, strong communication, program management and evaluation, administrative skills, financial management skills, organizational development and advocacy skills and an ability to work independently and in a team environment. In addition, effective interpersonal and organizational skills, high level of computer literacy, ability to maintain collaborative partnerships, internal and external to the organization, knowledge and interest in working with people to find employment and enter the workforce.
