Equity and Disability Inclusion Coordinator

Independent Living Waterloo Region (ILWR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting people with disabilities in living independent lives. Our vision is an inclusive community where persons with disabilities are supported to live independently and thrive. Our mission is to support and champion Independent Living for persons with disabilities through self-directed services and programs.

POSITION SUMMARY The Equity and Disability Inclusion Coordinator will support the ILWR Independent Living Resources (ILR) department with connecting people with disabilities from underserved, racialized, marginalized, and immigrant communities to ILWR and other community supports. Additionally, the Coordinator will develop relationships with community organizations serving the above-mentioned groups and support them with education and information to identify disability-related barriers and improve access to services and supports.

KEY RESPONSBILITIES

- Support ILWR in identifying internal opportunities to provide culturally informed supports for individuals from underserved, racialized, marginalized, and immigrant communities
- Ensure that sufficient supports are in place for individuals from targeted groups; example translation services
- Develop communication and marketing materials that adequately reflect the intersection between the targeted groups and disability related issues
- Connect and partner with community groups and organizations who support the afore-mentioned populations to provide information about ILWR programs and services
- Work with community groups to develop information sharing and referral processes to ensure that the target populations have access to disability related supports
- Ensure that target populations feel welcomed and supported in seeking information and services from ILWR and other disability organizations

QUALIFICATIONS

- Post-secondary education in a related field and/or employment experience in promotions and community development




- Access to reliable transportation as regular travel within Waterloo Region is required
- Lived experience/deep understanding of issues faced by persons with disabilities and/or underserved, racialized, marginalized, and immigrant communities
- Willingness to learn of barriers and challenges faced by individuals who experience discrimination as it intersects disability and culture
- Experience in community development and giving presentations

- Excellent public speaking and engagement skills
- Outgoing and energetic
- Robust verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to deal with the public in a courteous manner
- Compassionate and understanding of those with lived experience of disability and/or underserved, racialized, marginalized, and immigrant communities
- Ability to function as a team member in a collaborative environment
- Ability to handle multiple requests and deadlines
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction

Job Details: Status: Full-Time, 16-month Contract

Hours: 32 hours/week (64 hours/biweekly). Standard office hours, Monday - Thursday (8:30am - 4:30pm), with some flexibility required.

Location: Kitchener, Ontario

Starting Wage: $23.82 per hour
