Front of House (Service, Beverage & Hosting) — Haisan
Location: Commercial Drive, East Vancouver
Position: Full-Time
About Haisan
Haisan is an intimate, 30-seat fine dining restaurant opening this fall on Commercial Drive, centered around an ambitious multi-course blind tasting menu. Because of the room's scale, we operate as a tight-knit, highly collaborative team. Service here is fluid, attentive, and ego-free—blending elevated culinary precision with warm, approachable hospitality.
The Role
With an intimate dining room, our front-of-house team wears multiple hats rather than sticking to rigid, siloed roles. We are looking for an adaptable, hospitality-minded team member who thrives in a dynamic environment—equally comfortable presenting dishes, pouring a wine pairing, guiding guests through a course, seating arrivals at the door, or cleaning duties as needed.
If you love full-room awareness, genuine guest connection, and having a direct hand in every layer of the dining experience, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Tasting Menu Service: Guide guests seamlessly through the progression of courses, clearly articulating culinary concepts, techniques, and ingredients.
- Beverage Presentation & Pouring: Present, open, and pour wine and curated beverage pairings with confidence, care, and attention to detail.
- Hosting & Welcoming: Greet guests warmly at the door, manage coat check, verify reservations/dietary notes, and set a gracious, welcoming tone for their evening.
- Floor Flow & Support:
Maintain continuous awareness of the room—clearing, crumbing, polishing glassware, restocking stations, and resetting tables collaboratively.
- Guest Connection: Read the rhythm of each party, anticipating needs proactively to create an effortless, memorable night.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: Experience in high-standard, contemporary dining or tasting-menu service where attention to detail is paramount.
- Beverage Curiosity & Skill: A genuine enthusiasm for wine, teas, and cocktails. Practical comfort with table-side bottle presentation and proper pouring technique is a big plus (formal training like WSET is great, but passion and practical familiarity matter most).
- Versatility & Team Spirit: An all-hands-on-deck mindset. You’re excited to jump in wherever the room needs you, whether that’s greeting a guest, running a dish, or pouring the next pairing.
- Communication & Presence: Natural warmth, poise under pressure, and strong communication with both guests and the kitchen.
- Requirements: Valid Serving It Right (SIR) certification.
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly wage plus equitable, transparent tip pool participation.
- Comprehensive, ongoing beverage, food, and service education.
- Thoughtful pre-shift family meals.
- An inclusive, craft-oriented team setting where every member has a voice and room to grow.
- Extended health benefits after 3 months.
Pay: $18.25-$26.85 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
Benefits
- Dental care
- Extended health care
