Summary

As the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations while promoting a safe working environment. Reporting to the plant manager, your core skills in communication will be essential for effectively conveying safety protocols and training employees. Your premium skills in manufacturing and training & development will enable you to implement effective safety programs and foster a culture of safety within the organization.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate all Rhythm Automotive Tillsonburg Health & Safety Programs ensuring compliance with government regulations and Corporate policy

Oversee the Health and Safety program and ensure compliance with all legislation and company policies for the Tillsonburg plant;

Participate as the Management Certified member and Co-chair of the JHSC;

Develop, implement and standardize policies and procedures to ensure compliance with OHSA;

Provide information and make recommendations to all Managers, Supervisors and employees regarding the interpretation and application of OHS legislation and Company policies;

Lead the investigation of any critical incident;

Interface with government agencies to maintain regulatory compliance;

Ensure all accident/incident investigations have been completed in their entirety;

Coordinate the development of Job Safety Analysis and Physical Demand Assessments for each position;

Lead workplace audits and inspections as required;

Ensure all equipment and buildings owned or operated by the company comply with safety and fire regulations and any other Provincial or Federal regulations;

Participate in teleconferences with other Rhythm Automotive sites globally and assist in addressing issues that sites are experiencing difficulties with;

Work to foster an atmosphere of openness and information sharing in order to encourage a culture of high awareness, transparency and diligence with respect to safety and health matters.

Coordinate all Rhythm Automotive Tillsonburg Environmental Programs ensuring compliance with government regulations and Corporate policy

Management Representative (ISO14001)

Ensure that an Environmental management system is established, implemented and maintained;

Report to Senior Management on the performance of the environmental management system for review, including recommendations for improvement.





Site lead for all ISO14001 surveillance and re-certification audits;

Maintain all hazardous waste manifests and ensure that hazardous waste is disposed of within 90 days and to an approved handler;

Organize and facilitate the site Environment Internal Audit Program;

Ensure that CARs (Corrective Action Requests) are completed in a timely fashion;

Maintain monthly energy information and report out to Senior Management.

Continuous Improvement

Monitor and measure effectiveness of all safety programs;

Direct and review the analysis of near-miss incidents, accident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety policies and programs;

Coordinate Behaviour Based Safety Program to include training recent observers on a quarterly basis, preparing monthly observation sheets, inputting data as required and sharing monthly results with the JHSC and the entire site;

Facilitate coordination and completion on the Corporate Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP)

Provide resources on Health and Wellness offerings;

Research occupational safety information to ensure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the workplace;

Participate in external functions such as WSPS Networking Knowledge meetings to stay abreast of the latest Health & Safety legislative updates.

Health, Safety and Environment Training

Develop and conduct occupational safety training for various workgroups, including evaluation and modification of programs to meet local, provincial, and federal OHSA requirements;

Lead monthly safety talks for the plant;

Facilitate all new hire Environmental Health and Safety Training and ensure that employee files (paper and electronics files) reflect completion of this orientation;

Work with HR to identify training needs and training resources and create a training plan;

Prepare and maintain/update training materials as required;

Ensure that all Environmental, Health and Safety training records are accurate and up-to-date;

Assess training programs and investigate programs to enhance training for Tillsonburg and Rhythm Automotive sites.

Communication





Coordinate the communication of all safety metrics, Environmental, Health and Safety annual goals;

Ensure that all applicable internal/external parties are notified of incidents;

Ensure that Health & Safety communication boards meet Provincial and Corporate requirements;

Identify topics for monthly Safety Talks, prepare and distribute the written communication materials for Supervisors, and lead Safety Talks each month;

Participate in daily PCC meetings;

Participate and be prepared to present quarterly Management Review Meetings;

- Corporate metrics
- Plant metrics
- Cell boards
- Operations letter

Implement and support provincial prevention rebate programs/audits (i.e. Safety Groups) Create Corporate Safety Alerts in the event of a critical injury.

Qualifications

Post secondary education in a related field;

CRSP designation preferred;

Prior experience leading and implementing ISO 14001 programs;

Strong communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting;

Proven experience in health, safety, and environmental management;

Background in manufacturing processes and compliance standards;

Ability to develop and deliver training programs;

Demonstrated thorough knowledge of Ontario Employment legislation and safety protocols;

Demonstrated leadership in promoting a culture of safety and environmental stewardship;
