Fontaine Site Services is looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our civil construction team in Squamish, BC.

We are looking for an operator with solid experience working on civil construction projects. Candidates should be comfortable operating equipment around underground utilities, excavating to grade, working in tight areas, and adapting to varying ground conditions and jobsite environments.

This is a hands-on field position for someone who understands that good operating is about more than moving dirt. Accuracy, productivity, awareness of surrounding crews and utilities, and taking care of the equipment are all important.

Responsibilities

- Operate excavators, loaders, skid steers and other heavy equipment as required
- Perform excavation for underground utilities, drainage, water, sewer and civil infrastructure
- Excavate trenches, structures and foundations to line and grade
- Perform backfilling, grading, material placement and site preparation
- Work safely around existing utilities, workers, structures and other equipment
- Assist with installation of pipe, manholes, catch basins and other civil works
- Read and understand construction drawings, grades and site layouts
- Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or mechanical concerns
- Maintain equipment in clean and good operating condition
- Work closely with foremen, pipe crews, labourers and other operators
- Follow company safety procedures and site-specific requirements

Requirements




- Minimum 3 years of heavy equipment operating experience preferred
- Civil construction experience is required
- Experience with underground utilities and trench excavation is strongly preferred
- Comfortable operating excavators in varying sizes
- Ability to safely work in tight and congested areas
- Good understanding of grades, slopes and excavation depths
- Ability to read civil drawings is an asset
- Experience using GPS or machine control systems is an asset
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence preferred
- Reliable and able to consistently report to work in Squamish
- Strong awareness of equipment care, safety and jobsite productivity
