CMS is a Nisku based manufacturer of temporary structural foundation panels commonly referred to as matting. Our panels are manufactured using traditional materials of wood and steel, but our latest innovation is a transition to composite materials which deliver higher performance and lower operating costs for our clients. We are seeking an HSE Coordinator to join our mat operations team in Nisku, AB.

Role Summary:

CMS is looking for an HSE Coordinator to join our mat operations team in Nisku, AB. We care more about who you are than how long your resume is. This role is well suited to someone early in their safety career who's genuinely curious, easy to talk to, and not afraid to walk up to a worker on the shop floor and start a conversation.

You'll work directly under an experienced HSE/QC Manager who will teach you the technical side. What we can't teach as easily is the ability to build trust with a crew, so if you're personable, approachable, and people naturally feel comfortable around you, that matters more to us than years of experience.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. As a salaried role supporting a live manufacturing operation, occasional after hours or weekend work may be required to support shop activities. This is infrequent (historically about a dozen occurrences per year) but is a genuine expectation of the role, not a hypothetical.

Salary:



$63,000 - $73,000 annually, based on experience and certification progress. Candidates bringing additional qualifications such as internal audit experience, established registry proficiency, or a completed HSE designation may be considered above the posted range. Reporting Structure & Independence

Safety Management at CMS reports directly to the C-Suite. This position reports to the HSE/QC Manager, not to Operations, which means your safety judgment isn't filtered through production pressure or shop priorities before it reaches leadership. That said, independence from Operations doesn't mean isolation from Operations.

You'll be expected to work closely and collaboratively with the shop floor, supervisors, and crew every day. The line is about who signs off on safety decisions, not about staying out of the day to day of how the shop runs.

- Get out on the shop and yard floor daily, building relationships with the crew so they see you as approachable, not as someone checking up on them
- Deliver Safety Orientations for new hires and contractors
- Conduct daily oversight of shop and yard areas to identify hazards, including monitoring via the shop surveillance system
- Run toolbox talks that people actually engage with, not just read from a page
- Maintain and control distribution of HSE related documents and files
- Ensure corporate safety standards are upheld across the facility
- Raise HSE concerns with management and help identify practical solutions
- Conduct inspections and safety meetings
- Monitor worker compliance with modified duty restrictions and report concerns to the HSE Manager




- Learn and maintain HSE registries including ISN, Avetta, and ComplyWorks.
- Support & Facilitate Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) processes
- Support the HSE Manager in administering emergency response processes
- Assist with minor incident and near-miss investigations, and generate hazard identification assessments under HSE Manager guidance; major or complex investigations are led by the HSE Manager
- Maintain HSE records and statistical data
- Schedule third party training for employees
- Support COR maintenance and assist with internal and external COR audits
- Generate Hazard Assessments and Safe Work Practices under HSE Manager guidance
- Maintain HSE supplies for the shop
- Occasional travel to our satellite location (approximately 30 km from the Nisku office)
- Be available to respond outside of standard hours on the rare occasions shop operations require it
- Other HSE duties as assigned

What You Bring

- A genuine, approachable personality. You need to be someone the crew wants to talk to, not someone they avoid
- Comfortable starting conversations with people you don't know yet, and confident enough to speak up when something needs to be said
- 0-2 years of experience in an HSE role, safety related co-op or practicum, or a completed HSE diploma/certificate program; hands on shop, yard, or industrial exposure is an asset but not required
- Currently enrolled in or willing to work towards an NCSO designation; candidates with other relevant HSE training or coursework are welcome to apply
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite
- Coachable, curious, and comfortable asking questions
- Strong time management skills and high attention to detail
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record
- Clean drivers abstract required if using a personal vehicle for site visits
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
