About the Opportunity

Surface Technologies is looking for a Junior Mechanical Designer / Engineering Technologist to join their team in Orangeville. This is a great opportunity for someone with a college background in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technician, CAD/CAM, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or a related program.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on design work and wants to be involved in seeing their designs move from CAD to the shop floor. The team designs and manufactures custom industrial equipment, so the right person should be comfortable working with drawings, fabrication, mechanical assemblies, and production teams.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Create and update 3D models and 2D manufacturing/fabrication drawings
- Support the design of custom industrial equipment and mechanical assemblies
- Prepare BOMs, drawing packages, and technical documentation
- Assist with design changes, revisions, and equipment modifications
- Work closely with fabrication, welding, machining, and production teams
- Support shop-floor questions, troubleshooting, and practical design improvements
- Help with reverse engineering and updates to existing equipment
- Ensure drawings are clear, accurate,



and ready for manufacturing

What We’re Looking For

- College diploma or advanced diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technician, Mechanical Design, CAD/CAM, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or similar
- 1–4 years of mechanical design, drafting, fabrication, or manufacturing experience
- Experience with 3D CAD and 2D drawings
- SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software
- Exposure to fabrication, welding, machining, sheet metal, structural steel, or custom equipment
- Ability to read and create manufacturing drawings
- Exposure to BOMs, GD&T;, tolerances, and design documentation
- Comfortable working hands-on with production and shop-floor teams
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle

Nice to Have

- Experience with custom machinery, industrial equipment, conveyors, material handling, fabrication, or equipment modifications
- Autodesk Inventor experience
- Experience supporting designs from concept through build
- Interest in growing long term with a smaller, hands-on team
