An exciting opportunity exists to develop as an LPN and practice to your full scope within a collaborative team on 5 East at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. 5 East is a 36-bed inpatient unit providing care for both medical and surgical patients. In this role, you will be responsible for the comprehensive assessment, implementation, and evaluation of care for medical inpatients, delivering high-quality, patient- and family-centered care that supports the acute needs of our population. As an LPN on 5 East, Medical/Surgical Unit, you will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including Nurses, Physicians, Allied Health professionals, and support staff, contributing to a unit culture that values respect, teamwork, and professional expertise.

LPNs provide care within their scope of practice, in accordance with Alberta Health Services policy, the Health Professions Act, and the Licensed Practical Nurses Profession Regulations. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment and critical thinking, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build and maintain effective collaborative relationships. You will bring strength in patient advocacy, education, and care coordination, along with effective time management, prioritization, and conflict resolution skills.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team,



utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications

Recent medical-surgical nursing experience. Experience with acute care documentation systems (Connect Care).

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of It's Your Move. Completion of BSP training. Up to date Required Organizational Learning.
