Litigation & Repair Counsel (In-House)

We are currently seeking an experienced litigator to compliment the LAWPRO claims department in the role of Litigation & Repair Counsel.

Litigation & Repair Counsel will provide litigation and other legal services relating to LAWPRO’s errors and omissions program. You will work with Claims Counsel and insured lawyers to efficiently resolve claims against Ontario lawyers.

In repair matters, you will act on behalf of an insured lawyer before a legal proceeding has been commenced to rectify an error or reduce exposure to liability. On defence files, you will be involved in various stages of litigation to assess, strategize, and defend a claim.

In subrogation matters, you will investigate and commence subrogated claims on LAWPRO’s behalf both under the errors and omissions and TitlePLUS title insurance programs.

Litigation & Repair Counsel will be exposed to various practice areas. However, at this time preference will be given to litigators with experience in real estate and / or wills and estates litigation, although all litigation backgrounds will be considered.

Job specification:

The ideal candidate should

- be a keen litigator with a minimum of 7 years of litigation experience (additional experience is considered an asset);




- have significant experience in arguing contested motions and/or applications;
- be able to work independently;
- be well versed with the Rules of Civil Procedure and Professional Conduct;
- have strong written and verbal communication skills;
- have the ability to prioritize work efficiently and meet applicable deadlines;
- make effective use of technology;
- be licensed and in positive standing as a lawyer in Ontario; and,
- embrace the vision, values and goals of the company as a whole.

LAWPRO offers:
- A target starting salary of $160,000 for someone with 7 years’ relevant experience. Final salary is determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
