Maintenance Technician, Bakery

Positive Bread, Calgary NE (Stonehill Drive)

Full time, on site, about 40 hours a week built around the work. $28 to $32 an hour depending on experience. Start as soon as possible.

Good Bread is a family owned wholesale bakery in northeast Calgary. We bake for restaurants, grocers and cafes across the city, we run our own retail bakery, and we are opening a cafe. Three companies, about 75 people, and a plant that runs from the small hours and does not like to stop.

We are hiring our first dedicated maintenance technician. Until now the building and the equipment have been looked after by whoever was closest. That has to change, and this job is the change.

The job

You own the plant. General building maintenance and repair, painting, drywall, doors, fixtures, wear and tear, and the small contracting jobs that come up in a working bakery. Daily and weekly checks on the equipment, and first response when something stops, so a machine is looked at inside the hour rather than the day. Working with our outside trades and service companies when a job is beyond us, and being the person on site who knows what was done.

You also look after our retail bakery in the southeast and our cafe, with regular visits and their own list of repairs. Mileage between sites is paid.

The first project is the parts room. We need every spare part and tool set up, labelled and organised, and a parts inventory that is kept current. If you have done that somewhere else and enjoyed it, you will like it here.

We are building our own maintenance system, with work orders, equipment records and preventive maintenance schedules on an iPad on the floor. You will be its first daily user, and your feedback will shape it.

The week The plant is closed on Saturdays, which makes Saturday our best maintenance day, so it is a normal working day here and you take a weekday off instead. Beyond that the hours move with the work: some early starts, some late finishes, and when something breaks at four in the morning you are the person we call.



Call-outs are paid. If you want the same eight hours every day this is not the job. If you like a week that is never quite the same twice, it is.

You

- Solid hands on general maintenance experience, ideally in a plant, a commercial kitchen or a food facility
- Comfortable with painting, drywall, basic plumbing and basic electrical, and knowing when to call a licensed trade
- A basic understanding of how machinery works, and a real interest in learning our equipment: mixers, ovens, dividers, refrigeration, conveyors
- Highly organised. You keep records, you label things, and you can set up a parts room from scratch and keep it that way
- Reliable when called, with a valid driver's licence and your own vehicle for getting between sites
- A trade ticket or millwright experience is a bonus, not a requirement. We will also consider a part time or on call arrangement for a ticketed millwright who wants steady local work
- Comfortable working around food production, with the sanitation and food safety habits that go with it
