About Legends Haul
Legends Haul is a Vancouver-based food manufacturer, distributor and protein innovator serving thousands of British Columbia’s leading restaurants, retailers, hotels, caterers and foodservice operators.
Founded in 2018, the business has grown from a local startup into a vertically integrated food company built around premium products, practical service and meaningful partnerships across the food ecosystem.
From our SQF Certified, 45,000sf Vancouver facility, we manufacture, source and distribute products that help our customers succeed while supporting local producers and communities.
Our core expertise is sustainably sourced centre-of-the-plate proteins, value-added meat manufacturing, wholesale distribution and premium foodservice solutions. Alongside our distribution business, Legends Haul continues to grow proprietary brands and product platforms, including Chateau Water, WOOZA pizzas and other customer-focused innovations.
At Legends Haul, we believe food has the power to connect people, strengthen communities and create a better future. Through innovation, craftsmanship and a relentless commitment to quality, we are helping shape the future of food—one meal at a time.
Role Summary The Manager, Direct-to-Consumer and Retail Growth is the entrepreneurial builder and operator responsible for creating Legends Haul’s new consumer business across a premium physical retail location and direct-to-consumer e-commerce.
This role will work directly with the CEO and in close partnership with the Director, Brand and Marketing to translate the retail vision into a commercially sound, operationally executable and distinctive consumer experience.
The mandate begins with building: shaping the operating model, opening the first store, launching and improving the e-commerce platform, establishing fulfillment and service processes, and personally solving the practical issues that arise in an early-stage channel.
The role will integrate the consumer business with Legends Haul’s existing purchasing, manufacturing, inventory, warehouse, logistics, food safety, finance and customer-service capabilities so the customer receives a seamless experience from discovery through delivery or pickup.
As the model proves itself, the Manager will document the playbook, strengthen the economics, add team members and management capacity, and prepare the platform for additional locations and broader consumer growth.
The position is based from the East Vancouver office and flagship retail location and will require regular hands-on presence in the store, warehouse and other operating areas, with travel as required for suppliers, partners, research and future locations.
This is not a conventional store-manager or marketing role. It is a builder/operator position with end-to-end accountability for creating, running and scaling Legends Haul’s direct-to-consumer retail platform.
You Are This Person
You are an entrepreneurial retail and e-commerce operator who has built something meaningful rather than only maintained an established system.
You can sit with the CEO and Director, Brand and Marketing to shape strategy, then move immediately into product setup, store opening, fulfillment design, staffing, merchandising or customer-service execution.
You are comfortable starting lean. You do not wait for a full team, perfect systems or outside agencies before making progress.
You understand how a premium consumer brand comes to life through assortment, visual merchandising, packaging, service, content, promotion, fulfillment and the details of the physical environment.
You know how to operate a store cleanly and consistently, including staffing, scheduling, training, opening and closing, inventory controls, shrink, cleanliness, food safety and customer recovery.
You understand e-commerce as an operating channel, not simply a website. You can connect product data, merchandising, ordering, payment, inventory, pickup, delivery, customer communication and repeat purchase.
You are commercially grounded and can assess revenue, gross margin, labour, occupancy, fulfillment cost, average transaction, conversion, inventory turns, shrink and contribution.
You can build practical processes across departments without creating a separate business that competes with the wholesale operation for information, inventory or capacity.
You communicate directly, surface risks early and bring clear recommendations when decisions are required.
You are credible with customers, frontline employees, trades, agencies, technology partners, suppliers and senior leaders.
You are energized by turning an ambitious concept into a functioning business and then developing the people and systems required to scale it.
Role Responsibilities

- Provide clear updates, risks, financial insights and recommendations to the CEO and leadership team
- Remain visibly hands-on during setup, launch, peak periods and operating challenges
Direct to Consumer Platform Leadership The Manager will build one connected consumer platform rather than separate store, website, marketing and fulfillment activities.
This includes
- Defining the initial operating model, launch sequence, decision requirements and measures of success for the store and e-commerce channel
- Creating a premium but approachable retail experience that delivers exceptional meat, uncommon access and practical value to the consumer
- Connecting product availability, pricing, merchandising, promotions and customer communication across physical and digital channels

- Ability to translate a brand vision into practical service, merchandising and operating standards

- Ability to coordinate effectively across Operations, Production, Purchasing, Inventory, Logistics, Finance,
Food Safety and Quality Assurance, and Brand and Marketing
- Comfortable working with Shopify or a comparable commerce platform, point-of-sale systems, spreadsheets, analytics and operating reports
- Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to influence without relying solely on formal authority
- High ownership, strong follow-through and a consistent willingness to address practical problems directly
- Clean, polished and professional personal presentation appropriate for premium food retail environments
- Comfortable working flexible schedule during setup, opening, peak retail periods and other critical business needs
- Post-secondary education in business, retail, hospitality, commerce or a related discipline is an asset; equivalent entrepreneurial and operating experience will be considered
Ideal Candidate Background The ideal candidate may currently be working as a:
- Retail or e-commerce manager who has opened stores or launched a recent consumer channel
- Founder or early operator of a specialty retail, food, hospitality or direct-to-consumer business
- Omnichannel or consumer-experience leader with meaningful operational accountability
- Retail operations leader ready to build a new concept rather than inherit an established network
- E-commerce operator with direct experience in fulfillment, merchandising, customer service and physical retail
- Commercially minded specialty-food leader who has built teams, systems and customer experiences
Comparable experience will be considered where the candidate can demonstrate that they have built and operated a consumer business or channel and can own its economics.
