About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in Special Purpose Machinery (SPM) for their facility in Kimberley. This role is critical for conceptualizing and developing bespoke machinery solutions tailored to specific client needs across various industries. You will take ownership of the design process from initial client consultation and concept development through to detailed engineering, prototyping, and final build support.

This is a unique opportunity to work on diverse and challenging projects, applying creative problem-solving skills to design unique mechanical systems. You will be instrumental in driving innovation and delivering custom engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop conceptual layouts and detailed engineering designs for special purpose machinery.

Utilize advanced 3D CAD software to create complex assemblies, component drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).

Perform necessary calculations for stress, load, and motion analysis to ensure design integrity and functionality.

Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, software developers, and manufacturing teams to integrate all aspects of the machine.





Oversee prototype development and testing phases, troubleshooting design issues and making necessary modifications.

Provide technical support during the manufacturing and commissioning phases of the machinery in Kimberley.

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of special purpose machinery or automation equipment.

Expertise in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) and PDM/PLM systems.

Strong understanding of mechanisms, pneumatics, hydraulics, and control systems integration.

Proven ability to innovate and solve complex engineering challenges.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills for effective project collaboration.
