The Position The Overnight Residential Support & Safety Worker plays a crucial role in supporting the safety and security of a 15-unit transitional and supportive living arrangement for women and gender-diverse individuals who have experienced the criminal justice system, homelessness, or gender-based violence. This position requires a harm reduction approach to support the safety, security, and stability of residents, staff, and facilities during overnight hours.

What You’ll Do

- Monitors security systems, alarms, and surveillance cameras.
- Conducts regular checks of the building to identify and mitigate safety risks.
- Ensures all doors, windows, and entry points are secure.
- Maintains a working knowledge of relevant OH&S; policies and procedures.
- Responds promptly to disturbances, emergencies, or security concerns, following established protocols.
- Provides immediate de-escalation and maintains a calm, supportive presence during crisis situations.
- Provides basic first aid and responds to medical emergencies, including administration of Naloxone where required.
- Contacts emergency services (police, fire, ambulance) and the emergency shelter line as needed.
- Maintains detailed and accurate logs of activities, incidents, and observations during shifts.
- Communicates relevant information to the Program Lead and staff team to support continuity of care and operations.




- Escalates significant operational, safety, resident, or staffing concerns in accordance with established protocols.
- Supports the team by contributing to documentation and data entry as required.
- Promotes shared responsibility for common areas, including light cleaning and maintenance where appropriate.
- Follows guest management protocols.
- Supports a safe, welcoming, respectful, and community-oriented environment.
- Attends training and meetings as required.
- Supports consistent practice aligned with program and organizational values, policies, and procedures.

What You’ll Bring
- High School Diploma required; post-secondary education in Mental Health, Addictions, or a related field considered an asset.
- Experience working in a residential, community-based, or safety-focused environment preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in security, residential support, or a related field considered an asset.
- Robust crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed and harm reduction approaches.
- Valid First Aid & CPR certification required.
- Naloxone, ASIST,



and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training considered assets.
- Ability to remain alert, responsive, and exercise sound judgment during overnight shifts.
- Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Must pass a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Must meet Enhanced Reliability Status Clearance requirements (Public Services and Procurement Canada).

The Details We are hiring for a relief, on call positions. The hourly rate is $21.25 - $23.04.
