Supporting a Woman Living with Early-Onset Parkinson’s
We are looking for two reliable, compassionate caregivers to provide part-time support for our mom, who is living with early-onset Parkinson’s disease.
The goal of this position is to provide Mom with support, companionship, and supervision throughout the day while helping her remain safe, comfortable, nourished, hydrated, and engaged in her own home.
We are also hoping to find a casual/on-call caregiver who can provide coverage when one of the regular caregivers is sick, away on vacation, or otherwise unavailable.
Position Details
Location: Mom's home in St. Adolphe, Manitoba
Days: Monday–Friday
Hours: Approximately 20–25 hours per week
Hours and schedule: To be discussed during the interview process
Wage: $28.56/hour
Work setting: Care will be provided in Mom's home
Driver's licence: A valid driver's licence and reliable
Responsibilities
Giving/reminding -Mom about medications at scheduled times, as appropriate
Preparing and providing meals and snacks throughout the day
Encouraging and monitoring fluid intake throughout the day
Providing companionship and engaging Mom in conversation
Socializing with her and helping her stay engaged throughout the day
Light tidying and keeping her immediate living space comfortable
Light meal preparation, including preparing supper when needed
Assisting with appointments when needed
Driving Mom to appointments when required
Providing general supervision and awareness for her safety, particularly as Parkinson’s can sometimes affect her balance
Helping maintain a calm, comfortable, and positive daily routine
Communicating any concerns or notable changes to Mom’s husband (family care manager) , son and daughter.
Safety & Mobility
Mom is mobile and does not require assistance with bathing or toileting.
However, because Parkinson’s can sometimes affect her balance, having someone present during the day provides an important safety and support measure.
The caregiver should be attentive to her mobility and aware of situations where she may be at increased risk of losing her balance.
The role is not intended to provide heavy lifting or extensive personal care.
Meals & Family Support
Meals throughout the day will be for Mom and will include helping her have regular meals, snacks, andadequate fluids.
Supper preparation will be as needed to help support the family. Mom’s husband works long days, so having someone who can occasionally assist with supper preparation would be very helpful in supporting the family and making evenings more manageable.
Family Support & Communication
Mom’s husband is her primary family care manager and will be the main point of contact for the caregiver.
He works long days, which is why we are looking for additional support during the week.
The caregiver will work alongside Mom’s husband and family to help maintain her daily routine, safety, meals, hydration, medication schedule, and overall well-being.
The caregiver should communicate any concerns, changes in Mom’s condition or routine, or other important information to her husband/family care manager.
Appointments &Transportation;
Help Mom get ready for or organized for an appointment
Drive Mom to an appointment when needed
Accompany or assist her as needed
Whenever possible, Mom’s daughter, son, or husband will attend appointments with her to provide additional support and help communicate with healthcare providers.
The caregiver may occasionally assist with transportation

What We Are Hoping to Find
We would love to find two regular caregivers who can become familiar, trusted faces in Mom’s life and provide consistent support throughout the week.
We are also looking for a casual/on-call caregiver who would be available to step in occasionally when a regular caregiver is sick, on vacation, has an appointment, or is otherwise unable to work.
Our hope is to build a small, dependable team that works together with Mom’s husband as the primary family care manager, so that Mom has consistent support and our family has peace of mind knowing she is safe and well cared for.
