Nipissing Serenity Hospice is currently accepting applications for casual Personal Support Workers (PSWs).

Nipissing Serenity Hospice is a 10-bed, bilingual residential hospice located in North Bay, Ontario, serving residents of the Nipissing and East Parry Sound Districts. The Hospice provides around-the-clock palliative and end-of-life care through an expert, multidisciplinary team in a peaceful, home-like setting for people of all ages. Support is also extended to caregivers and families.

Position Summary The Personal Support Worker (PSW) is an important member of the Hospice care team and provides compassionate, person-centred care to residents at end of life.

The PSW will

- Provide care in accordance with each resident's individualized care plan and established Hospice policies and procedures.
- Support residents with activities of daily living while promoting comfort, dignity, independence and autonomy.
- Observe and report significant findings, changes in condition, behaviour or care needs to the appropriate registered member of the healthcare team.
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary team to support the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of residents and their families.
- Contribute to the planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of resident care in collaboration with the healthcare team, residents and families.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with Hospice policies and procedures.
- Respect and protect the rights of residents, including their right to independence,



autonomy and self-determination.
- Respect each resident's individual values, beliefs, religion, culture, identity and preferences.
- Protect resident privacy, confidentiality and dignity at all times.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with residents, families, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the Hospice team.
- Participate in maintaining a safe, clean, comfortable and welcoming environment for residents, families and visitors.

Qualifications and Skills The successful candidate will demonstrate:

- A Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate from a recognized educational institution.
- Current CPR certification is considered an asset.
- Experience in palliative, hospice, long-term care, hospital or community care is considered an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated compassion, empathy and respect for individuals and families experiencing end-of-life care.
- The ability to recognize and report changes in a resident's condition.
- A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- The ability to work independently while recognizing when assistance or direction is required.
- A commitment to providing culturally respectful and inclusive care.




- French language proficiency is considered an asset.

What We Offer

- Flexible scheduling: Casual employees do not have a set schedule. You have the chance to create your own schedule by selecting available shifts that fit your availability.
- Competitive compensation: Starting wage of $20.50/hour, plus the $3.00/hour Ontario Government PSW wage enhancement, for a current starting wage of $23.50/hour, subject to applicable program eligibility and requirements.
