About Expert Geophysics Limited

Expert Geophysics Limited is a leading airborne geophysical survey company supporting mineral exploration worldwide operating in remote and logistically complex environments. Our systems are developed in-house, and the performance of our airborne hardware is central to the quality of the data we deliver to clients.

This role sits within our engineering group. You will work directly on the hardware our surveys depend on, designing it, qualifying it in the laboratory, building it, and supporting it once it is in the field.

About the Role The Power Electronics Specialist designs, tests, and qualifies high-power circuitry, including DC-DC converters and pulse generators, for high-performance airborne transmitter applications. Alongside new development, you will provide ongoing design development and maintenance for our existing transmitter hardware.

This is a hybrid role, roughly between design work and hands-on build and field support. You will own circuit designs from concept through laboratory qualification. You will also be at the bench assembling and reworking boards, terminating harnesses, and diagnosing returned field hardware. We are looking for someone who wants both halves of that job.

Key Responsibilities

Design and qualification

- Design, test, and qualify high-power circuitry, including DC-DC converters and pulse generators, for airborne transmitter applications
- Design and prototype power supplies, regulators, filtering, and power distribution for airborne instrumentation
- Verify and characterize designs using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and load banks




- Provide ongoing design development and maintenance for existing company transmitter hardware
- Create high-quality documentation, including circuit diagrams, circuit descriptions, experiment and test reports, operations manuals, and safety highlights
- Collaborate with engineering team members across disciplines on integration and design decisions, so that designs are practical to implement, manufacture, and support in the field

Build and field support

- Assemble, rework, and repair circuit boards using SMD/SMT and through-hole soldering techniques, including fine-pitch components
- Diagnose faults down to component level on prototype and returned field hardware
- Build and terminate cable harnesses and connectors for airborne and ground equipment
- Perform mechanical measurement and fit checks using calipers, micrometers, and hand tools
- Document test results, revisions, and rework; maintain assembly and test records
- Work with our engineering and field crews to resolve issues found during survey operations, occasionally under time pressure
- Contribute to other electronics projects across the engineering group as they arise

Qualifications

Required

- Diploma or degree in electronics engineering technology, electrical engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
- At least 4 years of practical power electronics experience, including having independently taken a switching power supply or comparable power circuit from schematic through to qualified hardware




- Working knowledge of the fundamentals that govern high-power design: topology selection, magnetics, thermal management, high-voltage layout practice, and EMI/EMC
- Solid component-level troubleshooting on analog and power circuits, with systematic fault isolation at both board and system level
- Demonstrated skill in SMD/SMT and through-hole soldering, assembly, and surface-mount rework, including fine-pitch work
- Confident hands-on use of oscilloscopes, multimeters, and general test and measurement equipment, and precision with hand tools and measuring instruments
- Ability to read and create schematics, PCB layouts, and assembly drawings, and to interpret component datasheets, using KiCad
- Clear and consistent technical documentation habits
- Willingness and ability to travel to field-test equipment and support prototypes in the field

Preferred We do not expect any candidate to have all of the following. Any of them will strengthen an application.

- Designing snubber networks for fast-switching, multi-hundred-amp MOSFETs
- Controlled large-scale LC resonant circuits
- Laboratory experimentation with high-power circuits
- Basic scripting, or firmware exposure in C or C++
